Removing the Back Seat
Has anybody removed the completely useless back seat? It's a nice shelf but I'm sure there's a lot of weight savings to be had getting rid of it.
If so, DIY please! |

It's a car meant to save weight, why would the seat be more when they are barley usable?

I removed mine but didnt take any pictures. To remove the bottom you just take out the one visible bolt on the front of the bottom of the seat and the bottoms come right out. I left the back of the seats in and just folded them down so I have a flat shelf.
I also removed the seat belts in the rear which just required popping off some panels and unbolting the belts.

You could fill up with 2.5 gallons less gas. Or run on the treadmill for a few months

I gutted the back of my car...then I put it all back in after weighing it. Left out the spare tire, tools, owners manual crap and a few other things. Everything else was just too damn light and not worth all the rattles and buzzing that I got after removing 25 pounds of seat and plastics. Id rather get a light weight battery and take my spare out and I'm pretty "because racecar" but it got buuuzzzzzy real quick with everything removed back there. The heaviest thing back there other than the spare is the seatbelt. Seriously.

I always have my back seat down to fit all my work equipment.
So I am planning to remove everything in the rear and carpet it up nicely. There is a lot of stuff in the rear you can remove for weight: -Rear Seats -Airbags -Seat Belts -Speakers -Side plastics -Center brake light -Spare tire -Tools/ jack/ foam -Floor mats |
