The red crinkle aluminum intake on the >= ‘17 refresh makes for one of the best looking stock engine bays available at any price. Modern e.g. Porsches, can’t even take a peek under the hood anymore, same for electric vehicles - no box of bolts to marvel at. And hence no mechanical geek fun. |

Yeah definitely something about red plenum and valve covers highlighting the engine. It just looks nice.

For me, the biggest disappointment of this new design as I mentioned before is the tire diameter. On rough American roads, we need a bigger diameter to keep the car more stable and comfortable. 215/45/18 (at 650mm diameter) would have been perfect. 225/40/18 would have been good too to give it more of a grip bias. With the old 2L engine, larger diameters make it feel too slow but I would think with this new engine they could get away with at least a 10-20mm boost in diameter. (And for those who say, "Just slap bigger tires on it!" - That causes the speedo to be off and handling or clearance issues sometimes so no.)

Pleased to see the new BRZ 's designers did not follow the current trend to smaller/squintier/highly segmented headlights that the use of LEDs makes possible, but have instead opened them up. It seems that the pattern recognition circuitry in our brains "sees" headlights as eyes, and when those eyes become too misshapen relative to biological norms, at least to me they just don't look right.

I think that is true. My daughter always points out the face different cars have. She sees them as a face, and the headlights are the eyes. She says my FR-S looks like its angry. ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
