For some good info on storing your car, you can read this from a Miata forum. It's still good info, even if they are talking about another car. Winter Prep

I am going to TRY and winter drive it for as long as possible, I LOVE drifting in the snow, I have done it with all of my cars (mustang, 2 corollas etc) and it is always fun, FF or FR
always fun haha.but if this winter is actually brutal in saskatchewan, i will store it and drive my corolla.

Definitely going to winter drive it. As much as I love every car I've owned, they are just machines and meant to be used. A wash every week and good rust proofing will help it last. I see no point in owning a car you only use for 6 months of the year.

It's year-round driveable, no problem... Personally, winter tires are gonna go on the stock wheels once the snow starts coming down, then I'll be getting some 18's next summer. |

I think I am the opposite of most people. I am looking at getting a BRZ as my new winter driver. My 135 is my DD and I thought 300hp/tq will be more difficult to handle than the BRZ even with snows. And I can also enjoy the BRZ all year round. My only concern is ground clearance.
Any thoughts? |

Did anyone notice this in both the Subaru and Scion owners manuals, seems bizarre
Do not drive in excess of 30 mph (50 km/h), regardless of the type of snow tires being used. |

actually for most people driving over 50kph on a snowed in road is pretty difficult, not to be confused with a cleared one.

This is a personal opinion, but I think storing a car over winter is actually doing a car no good. The car is not a bear, you know, it cannot go hibernate over the winter even if you give it full tank of gas. I just think of how mechanics of the vehicle are not being used and if they are not properly oiled up, taken care of, then something will go haywire when you start driving i again in the spring. There is just too much that you need to take care of to make sure it's in pristine condition for the next 3 months or so.
It's kind of like going to Ben's Liquor store and buying wine, drinking it and then storing it for many decades, hoping it will age well and will taste better in 10 or more years. Not all aged wine tastes good, especially the one that you buy today from the store. If you were going to go on vacation for a long period of time storing a car in the garage would make sense, but to store it because it's cold outside, hmm, I don't know. To each their own. I don't own BRZ yet, but when I do, it will be replacing my Prius, and I drive that car every day of the year. Because BRZ is a rear wheel drive, winter time may be dangerous, but so can be drinking too much water. Personally, if you don't have a spare car for the winter and you can afford only one vehicle, then drive it. But then also I would say, why not get a WRX if the winter is a problem? Yeah it's not as sporty, but it sure as heck more reliable through all year round. Again, this is just my opinion, I'd suggest at least trying to take it once for a drive in the winter, if that doesn't sweet your needs, then store it for sure. Good luck! |

Was storing mine, will be driving it now as its hard to justify two vehicles for one person and parking is a bitch.

Driving mine, my old car was an 86 300zx so I'm used to driving in the snow with a RWD vehicle although seems like I'm gonna have to weigh the back down considerably

@RussianNinja The cold isn't the problem. The issue is salt, and then rust.
Sure, for things like an engine to run properly they should be lubricated often, however, how long do you think cars sit in dealerships for? Sometimes they stay for quite a while.
