Question Installing Spec-D fog lights

Hi all,

I finally got some fogs for my FR-S but the wiring harness they sent with their kit is different from that shown in their video and written instructions. The wiring now appears to be geared toward using under-dash sources instead of wiring directly off the battery under the hood. I do not work with electricity very much so I'm not confident how to wire the always on 12V and the ACC. I found an ACC wire I can tap into but I'm not as confident about the always-on side of the equation. Can I just tap one of the unused hot fuse ports for that connection? Do I need to install a fuse along with it if I do that? I don't want to melt or blow up anything and they're out of the office (apparently - there's no message) and I want to finish it this week while I have the time.

Thanks, Scott

Bumping back up. They are not responding to any messages and not answering their phone. Sad that they may be struggling, but meanwhile I have partially installed lights but no power (and a missing cover). I'm amazed that they did not include revised instructions to go along with their revised wiring harness. Anybody?

My only option to not screw up according to my limited knowledge is to wire a separate hot wire back out through the firewall directly to the battery so it's wired mostly like the original design but with the relay inside the car. Thoughts on that?

a diagram/link to what they say, and/or what you did would really help

What they have on their website is this: https://specdtuning.com/content/Spec...ion%20FR-S.pdf

But those install instructions are from before they had the OEM-style switch. Once they changed over to that switch, they now have a big connector that can't fit through the firewall so the entire harness is completely different. And since it's one big harness, it must be designed to be under the dash instead of under the hood. That means all of those instructions are now useless and I now have both the 12V hot and the ACC hot under the dash - unless I run an (unsupplied) extension wire through the firewall to the battery.

Right now, I only have the blue extension wire from the light harness running through the firewall inside to its mate on that harness. I found a few Acura and Honda install instructions on their site that utilize this type of harness and they show tapping into the 12V hot and ACC hot wires on a nearby harness. I tried that today but those stupid tap clips either didn't do the trick or I missed my target.

Instead of tapping those wires, can I use either unused fuse box ports or share a few of already-used ports in that fuse box? Without shorting out or burning down my car?

it's been a while since i've looked at the fuses. i specifically recall that unused GM and Chrysler fuse ports don't have any wiring at them(from trying to do something similar), and want to say that these cars are the same.

but you should be able to use an 'add-a-fuse' in one of the accessory fuse locations to get the power you need.

Thanks for that. I’d seen add-a-fuse mentioned before but I’d never looked at it until your message. Looks like I should be able to add a few of those since there are, indeed, several locations wired and hot. Any ideas on what fuses to add for the fogs? I wish Spec-D would answer these questions...

according to the diagram i'm looking at here:
https://tinkerine.com/topic/lb/234/brz-fuse-box-cover

the radio, ecu acc, or gauges should be applicable. you can check the seat heater spots, to see if a fuse is setup to go there as well.
