Yeah I guess it would be more fun to do the button presses on the shifter rather than the paddles. But only after you rewire it so it isn't backwards. Hahaha

There can only be choice where there is a market to support it. Unfortunately, that market is slowly disappearing. I've always thought there would be a tipping point where the AT was "standard" and the MT would become a cost option, just because of the development costs vs number of units sold. I think this is a viable option, and wish it existed for all cars.

That happens to lots of functions in the automobile industry that have declined as options, or even fully gone away over the years.

Simple example is base model of cars. 50 years ago just about every model car had a base, no frills option you could buy. That is gone now.

Basic things like manual windows and locks have pretty much gone away.

Ultimately, as we move away from ICE, the MT will have no purpose. It isn't at risk, it's basically a legacy product at this point.

I don't like it, but it's reality.

"this car demands an MT!"
"Why would anyone ever buy an AT on this car?"
"AT is for people who can't drive stick!"
"AT sucks!"
"MT is always superior!"
"Lol, you bought an AT?"

I don't see AT owners bashing the MT community like the MT owners bashing the AT community.

MT owners aren't defending their choice, they are stating their choice is far superior and any other choice is stupid.

AT owners are the ones being attacked and just defending their choice.
So yeah AT owners have a right to be defensive and argue the case for why everything an MT owner says about an AT owner is misinformed and wrong.

in MT when you shift 2nd to 3rd and 4th to 5th you don't move the shifter up?

In an auto, If you want to shift up, get this , you move the shifter up.
If you want to shift down, get this its wild, you move the shifter down.

I take it you want to move the shifter down to shift up and up for down?
And that's not backwards in your mind?

It all depends on where you started your personal standard transmission odyssey. On British motorcycles you pushed the shifter down to shift up and pulled the shifter up to shift down - and did it with your RIGHT foot. Imagine the confusion for those of us who had Hondas and Nortons in the same garage. And yet, some of us survived.

The problem for purists is the threat posed by the growing dominance of automatic transmissions is existential. As @Dadhawk noted, there will eventually be so few people able or willing to shift standard gearboxes that the market will kill them off. Those for whom manual shifting is integral part of the process of driving find this loss emotionally wrenching. It very much looks like ICEes are on their way out. For my grandkids' sake I hope its sooner rather than later. That doesn't mean the noise car makers artificially create to let pedestrians know a car is coming will replace the sound of a v12 at 9000 rpm.

Oh, and FYI, the ability to push a button or pull a flappy paddle does NOT transform an automatic tranny into a standard. A PDK is, and will remain, an automatic transmission no matter who or what tells it when to shift. This is the way.

And get this, that is backwards. The correct way is to push forward to downshift. Most cars do it backwards to satisfy the uninformed. TBH I'm surprised the Twins go it backwards considering it's marketed as a driver's car.

There are threads on this forum explaining how to rewire it the correct way.

Fair enough, I personally don't subscribe to bashing people for not going with a MT. I just prop it up as much as possible in an attempt to at least influence new buyers to at least give it a shot.

At work so I cant watch the video atm,
But I am assuming those are sequential you posted?

some people like up being up and down being down,

But hey if you want it to be reversed and have up be down and down be up go right ahead.

I've seen the rewiring, most people just rewire the paddles to Switch those, not sure how many have actually reversed the shifter itself.

While we are at it lets change the windows so pulling up makes the window go down, and pushing down makes the window go up.

TBH I would reverse it if the + and - where easily switched on the center piece. but it does logically sound reversed.
