Basically Toyota built the awd 2 door car that no one has seen in the USA since the Mazda 323 GTX or Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX and Toyota USA decided no one in the USA would even think of buying it. I'd literally go buy this car right now if I could. I hate Toyota USA.

Here is the official English presentation of the car. This is almost 30 minutes long but has a lot of interesting details and information.

There are so many reviews that it's almost painful to watch, considering that it's not available in North America and I desperately want one.

I think that Autogefühl does the best review of them all.

I posted that one further up. But yeah I liked the guys review. But I also like the more dry German presentation

I'm as deflated as anyone that TMNA won't get this...until I did the currency conversion that the German reviewer was all impressed with, €38k = $45k USD, that would make GR Yaris a tough choice for US shoppers.

Then there's the infamous Honda turbo upshift throttle hang issue apparent in the video but can't tell for sure if it's driver or ECU induced.

TMNA doesn't make many marketing mistakes so their product planning matrix may have concluded that it's over the top for us. Maybe the more traditionally styled (and attractive IMO) GR Corolla hatch, or whatever they'll call it, will be close enough if they can shave the price $10k with US production.

I'm justifying my disappointment though and on principle will never buy a GR Corolla knowing what they kept from us. Bastards.

Straight currency conversion is a poor guide to car prices.

Currency conversion is one important pricing factor plus national political and economic conditions that determine content and value. Other variables apply but in the US, we'll never get the opportunity to see what could have been.

Because the piece of garbage Honda Civic Type R is selling so poorly even after dealers add $20k to the sticker... oh wait....

They make boatloads of horrible decisions and always have. There is a reason Toyota is viewed as boring as hell in the USA, because anything even remotely interesting they keep from us. Then the automakers had that asinine 25 year law passed for imports. Automakers are the #1 enemy of auto enthusiasts.

Im wondering if it partially had anything to do with the Yaris being based on the mazda2 here for a couple years (which overlapped with the release of the global TNGA Yaris). And then also partially slow sales of small cars......

Cuz even if we take the GR YAris out of the equation (which is somewhat bespoke compared to the global yaris), North America just didnt get the redesigned global yaris.

It doesnt make sense to bring in a GR Yaris based on the global yaris that north america does NOT get as another piece of the model hierarchy alongside the mazda2 based yaris and pretend they're more or less the same car.

I mean the Yaris lineup got a little messed up with the demise of Scion, but they kept the Toyota Yaris and the Mazda Yaris separate for a year (as sedan and hatch) before going full Mazda2 on both.

No longer. Most are offered at MSRP before negotiations, some thousands below sticker:

Maybe search filters change by location? I'm showing 75 at MSRP or less using nationwide radius.

Conversions aren't really that easy. The CTR isn't 45k USD. Additionally, go look at Honda France, then go look at Honda Germany.. or any other EU place for that matter, you'll find a surprise.
