I drilled and tapped the metal plate for an M3 screw that acts as a new stopper. Works very well - the boot closure is nice and positive without being ridiculously hard. I imagine a slightly softer spring might also be of benefit.

Mine is about to shear off again... and I'm at ~35,600 miles. Time to visit the dealership one last time?

Just realized I don’t think I ever had the rubber nub/cap thing... since day 1 I’ve had to close the trunk just right for it to latch. The past year occasionally it unlatches on its own... usually on the highway. But very infrequently. But the past two days it’s happened twice. I was comparing with a friend’s FRS today and noticed he has the rubber thing but I don’t, and I’m 90% sure I never had it from the start.

I don’t know for sure that not having it is why my trunk has been getting unlatched randomly but I’d like to test it. Is there a part number for it?

If you're just missing the rubber bumper, just buy them from Advanced. I gave up after the dealership replaced it, as it eventually came apart again.

You get three in this six pack that work for our cars for $4 -- I treat it as a consumable item now.

Thanks! I got a pack and put one on.

So far it’s still just as annoying to shut the trunk as it’s always been. But hopefully at least it’ll stop it from popping open on its own.

How's the aluminum shim holding up over time? Curious to know if a steel shim would work any better.

I just noticed that I don't have any rubber thing inside my striker...
I didn't notice any issue.

I like your solution. Here is a picture of how I implemented it. I did rotate the rubber bumper 180 degrees after taking the picture so it's more square with the trunk lid part of the latch and will hopefully last a while longer. Thanks!
