they lie. there was a reddit about a guy that fixed damage like that with a shoelace and a belt buckle.

shouldn't cost more than $100 to fix

You could, but personally I would lead wipe it, then buff.

Save those master cylinder hones for when you really need them to strengthen that Aisin gearbox.
