Trying to decide on Coilovers
Like the title says, I’m trying to decide on coilovers for my car. I’ve narrowed it down to Revel and Meister R Zeta coilovers. I don’t track my car, but do some spirited driving (I DD my car). I’ve had Eibach Pro Springs in my car (OEM struts) for over 70k miles and am looking for a change. I’m not looking for a super slammed stance. I’d like to keep it about the same height as the Eibachs. I appreciate any firsthand feedback and advice on these two options.
And yes I’ve searched. |

Don't get the Zeta, damping isn't great and they're too softly sprung imo. Set it towards soft and there is too much compression over dips and weird lateral movement in the constant radius corners like on-ramps, set it on hard and it handles sharper but the ride becomes brutal, only suitable for pool table smooth roads

Find some local ones in 86 groups for sale/cheap.
I grabbed a set of Tein Flex Zs with only 15k miles on them for four hundred bucks.

The damper in the Bilstein B6 is much better than anything you'll find under $1k. No height or damping adjustability, but it's just a better overall part.
If you're happy with your current ride height, it makes a lot of sense especially for a DD. I would consider coilovers if you have a little more in your budget and/or you track or auto-x your car. There are coilovers that are plenty good for a daily driver, but IMO not under $1k. - Andrew |

You didn't say how much you want to spend?
If you want to go the cheapest route I think BC Racing BR coilovers are the best for under $1,000. If you can, I would suggest spending about $1,500 and getting RCE SS-1. Last edited by Mike_ZN6; 07-30-2020 at 01:56 PM. |

I don't see the point in running coilovers unless you are doing AutoX, track days, or you are just looking to slam your car. Don't cheap out to just end up with a worse ride and no performance gain.

OP - I am at 52k and plan on doing suspension at 80k (about 2 years from now). My plan after much research was to lower car slightly with RCE yellows and B6 struts for DD and spirited driving. Most advice from other threads has been this is a better option than cheaper coilovers. It appears you need to spend more than 1k to get better dampening in the available coilovers. Since I don’t track, I don’t see the need to spend more for coilovers. But I will reassess in 2 years, maybe opinions will change.

The B6 are ~$800 and RCE Yellow are ~$340, so total cost is ~$1140. (and you should probably add new strut tops all around)
For me that is really close (~30% more) to move up to $1500 for the RCE SS-1 which also gives you new tops in the front. Andrew can you give a more detailed comparison between the two and when you would choose one over the other? |
