I feel like the 350Z will always be my white whale. I salivated over it when it came out, I was 16 at the time. I couldn’t afford one for my first car obviously, but when I was shopping for a sports car in 2016 it was high on my list.

I was considering a 350Z, Z4 (I had owned one before), or BRZ. I went with the BRZ after driving all 3, at least 2 examples of each. I always loooved the 350Z but finally after driving one I walked away miffed. It felt heavy, the engine didn't feel very willing, and it felt thin in the metal and significantly chintzier than the BRZ. Before I drove any of the cars I was expecting to buy the 350Z. After driving the BRZ for a mile I knew I wasn't going to.

Thing is, 4 years later I still find myself thinking about the 350Z.

You can't undo that.

IMO the seating position is terrible in the 370Z and I really like the car.

Not really fair, the ND is much smaller than the NC.

A Miata is a Miata. The reason why ND is much smaller than an NC (is it?) is because NC got too big compared to NA/NB. That's why some people even think it's a "wrong Miata".

Lots of small European hatchbacks are lighter in the latest generations:

Peugeot 207 at 2740 lbs / Peugeot 208 at 2150 lbs.
Opel Corsa E at 2469 lbs / Opel Corsa F at 2161 lbs.
Renault Clio III at 2535 lbs / Renault Clio IV at 2161 lbs.
Ford Fiesta 6th gen at 2540 lbs / Ford Fiesta 7th gen 2454 lbs (the one we don't get in the US).

Obviously all small cars to begin with (same size as the aforementioned Fiesta), and some were plain porky in the previous generations (the 207 especially). I guess the Golf sized hatchbacks would show the same story, but I'm too lazy to check...

i still think the same thing. my brother-in-law has a friend with a burnt-orange 2003 350z he maintains quite well. i love the color, and the lines of it. every time i see him, there is part of me that wonders if i made the wrong decision.

I remember my copy of automobile magazine with the 350z release (I had to be maybe 13?) and I was so stoked about it. I test drove one a few years ago and I felt like I was in a shit tank. Felt super heavy. The cockpit felt tiny and cramped but the car felt huge. Did not like. You know what they say about not meeting your heroes.

It just pops up in my head from time to time, usually stirred up from hearing a 2003-2006 VQ35 in traffic (it was an FX35 yesterday)
I know it won't be the car I want it to be, but that doesn't stop me from wanting one.
