Or have a $2000 a month insurance bill. Or lose your license. Or kill yourself or somebody else. If we are talking track or strip cars then there is no limit. Street cars just simply do not need massive numbers. I am truly baffled as the where people get to drive cars with over 300 hp that they can even remotely start to use that power.

IMHO the twins are more engaging and fun to drive on the street. The race track is a different matter, but "it costs money to go fast" and ceramic brake jobs and good tires are not cheap! I no longer need to impress anyone and I am so over $2000 routine services...

Within a week he smashed another car because he was trying to show off with friends in car, gave it the beans, and couldn't slow down enough with those tiny brakes to avoid rear-ending a car that was slowing down for traffic. I agree that more than 400 on a street car is too much for most people, and also terribly frustrating to try and limit when you're on narrow winding roads. |

but in seriousness, that goes back to the usable gears - even if you had enough traction (AWD and sticky rubber) you won't be able to "enjoy" the low gears - they'd fly by way too fast. I much prefer the feeling of speed to the actual thing. Slow car fast rules!

but... When they said to change the timing belt at 100,000 miles they meant it. I figured I was smarter than the engineers and the belt could last another 20,000 easy. It didn't. It blew up doing 20MPH and not even under boost. That day I learned exactly what they meant by the term "interference" engine. There were parts of the head in the cylinder. There were parts of the piston embedded in the head There were parts of valves embedded in everything. The whole section of head and valve seats for cylinder two just ceased to exist in this plane and moved onto a greater realm someplace.

If memory serves me correctly the older 6 bolt blocks were sturdier than the later 7 bolt variant. Not that it would matter if a belt goes. I wouldn't mind buying a clean one if that even exists around here these days. |
