Funny nobody has mentioned lift backs yet. Once upon a time it was a more common designation than even hatch was. Especially with Toyota.
But a liftback is simply a type of 3 door/5 door hatchback. It's used to describe a hatch back that is more horizontal (Like many old Toyotas, or a Tesla Model S) vs the more standard hatchback like a GTI.

3 door/5 door is still the standard and has been. Just because Mfrs didn't want to confuse people with such terms doesn't mean they are new or anything.

So is there like anything ACTUALLY official of this happening at this point?

Or is it still just kind of up in air and people are just basing their claims off a leaked image in a dealership meeting room?

No. These kind of cars aren't going to be the first projects getting spun back up in the post COVID-19 world.

Still waiting for credible info that it’s coming (next year) like everybody keeps saying.

All I’ve seen is that they planned to make another one... which was announced prior to covid. It’s been silence since the announcement. No test mules seen. Haven’t seen anything about trademarks for the name “GR 86” or anything like what we saw with the original FRS/BRZ or the Supra.

The dealership presentation is 2 for 2.

But 100% it is a refresh with a NA 2.4. Good luck!

This is my point!
They have always been around but the common name has evolved over time.
I never once said that the concept was new but simply that the term "5 door" is used more now than it used to be.

I'd prefer a supercharger, but would trade the super or turbo charger for a targa, pop-up headlights and louvers.

New term != "used more now than it used to be."
