Did this on my car over the weekend, and doing it with a friend on his FR-S this evening.
It's way easier to do after releasing the engine/transmission mounts and jacking up each side of the engine. It takes <20 minutes to do and will make the rest of the job a breeze. edit: followup - we did the entire job in just under 2 hours, from pulling into the garage to pulling out and including test starts for every plug. One little question I had, however. On both of our cars ('13 and '15), after doing the third spark plug (closest to the passenger), the car would start and then immediately stall out (over a few trials). We would re-do it, lower that side of the engine, and...it would work! My theory is that either I wasn't getting the coil pack on correctly for that particular plug, or that the engine doesn't like to be lifted up on the RH side (relative to the engine bay) on start. Has anyone else experienced this?

I'm at 35K, 5 years, according to the intervals, I am due..... well my plugs are due. Does the charge capacity in the plugs wear out over time?
Should I wait another 1-2 years till 50k-60k, or do it right meow?

I didn't change my plugs until 120K miles when I had the spring recall done, and the one I saw basically looked new. Your wear may vary.

Did mine at 50k and they looked perfect. So you can wait for sure. I would only change early if getting a protune, but even that is overkill.

theres alot that problems that should be apparent when you got bad spark plugs. i did mine at 62k and when i took off the old ones, they looked worn sure but still usable for probably at least 20k more miles so yea you should be fine. |

tackling this job slowly... got the strut braces out, fuel injector cover on driver side, ECU thingy on passenger side, have as much space as possible ready to go.
I got the coil packs loosened. Question, do I unplug them before pulling them out? or pull them out first then unplug them? the cables seem really firmly in place second... ive been using a 1/4 slim profile ratchet... seeing some videos of dudes saying you need a 3/8... any particular reason? I don't mind going out to buy a set but is there a need for it? my 1/2 wont fit in there obviously thanks |

you know what guys, passenger side plugs and driver front plug are actually not that bad at all (once you take out all the crap to let your arms get down there)
using a 14mm 3/8 deep socket, 3 inch extension, and a 3/8 ratchet i was able to do all 3 of them in under about an hour and a half... a vaccum hose also helps to screw the plug in by hand and then finish off with the tools above But the drive back one (closest to the steering wheel) is the mother of all spark plug nightmares. I cant use the same 3/8 configuration of socket/extension.... my ratchet wont fit and its a slim profile. my hands and forearms are CUT UP like crazy (even wearing gloves) trying to access that area and fiddle around with it. I actually had to give up yesterday and save this last plug for another day.... Theres a 1/4 socket + extension stuck in my coil tunnel currently Will report back once (IF) i manage to get this last plug changed and hopefully fire her up without a CEL |
