Yeah, its all but impossible to get a Made in Japan Toyota filter anymore. Denso supplies them, and they have plants in Thailand and China. Interestingly enough, I've had a hunch that the Full brand of filters sold at NAPA are actually rebranded Denso filters, or at least made in the same plant by the same company. They're made in Thailand and look strikingly similar to the real deal. Not the same for the BRZ Full filter though, which just reinforces my theory. Denso doesn't make the BRZ filter. Who makes the Subaru OEM filters that are Made in Japan? Nippon? |

I just checked, the Toyota filter is much cheaper. If they both work, why spend extra for the Subaru one?

Either one works well. Buy the Toyota or Subaru oil filter from from whichever dealership is closer. |

I think every dealership is different. Interestingly enough, my local Toyota started recently selling the Subaru filter, and they usually charge more.
I bet you anything they just use the local Subaru as a warehouse and charge extra for the "shipment" from down the street. |

My Subaru dealer is next door to the Toyota dealer (same group) so I get the Subaru filter then walk next door to get the Toyota oil because it has the best shear characteristics and it's far less expensive than just about every other 0W20. Oil and filter usually run right about $35 this way.

I bought neither oil nor filter from a dealer since I bought my car. I buy Bosch, K&N, or Mobil 1 filters and Mobil-1 or Castrol Edge oil, whichever is cheaper. Walmart sells the cheapest oil almost always. Filters usually come from Amazon. No crush washers needed due to Fumoto valve I have replaced in the first oil change. That was a very good buy.

I use the Wix 57830 with Mobil 1 oil. Get it from Rock Auto for $4.14. https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...il+filter,5340
To save on shipping I order multiple filters, air, oil, and cabin, for both my vehicles on the same order, and use the 5% off coupon code. https://www.retailmenot.com/view/roc...DAVRWOGUAQMSCI |
