I suppose this is a great experiment of how much we really need the DMV in any given state.

There are other states where that is true, or at least used to be. For example, I wasn't required to do a road test in Florida in the 80's. There was a driving test but it was all done in a parking lot.

Georgia already requires 40 documented hours behind the wheel to get your license, and most teens get it through passing formal driver education.

But as @humfrz alluded to, there wasn't much to the driving test particularly if you went to a rural location to take it. Basically you drive around a parking lot, did some basic manuevers including the dreaded parallel parking, then drove down the street a couple of miles turned around and came back. If you were stupid enough to try and take the test in suburban Atlanta, well, you got what you deserved!

Florida still has no driving test. It's a parking lot assessment.

1 in 4 drivers in Florida have no license anyways...

Who cares? It's a no-fault state anyway.

When my wife and I moved to Florida we had to take our parking lot test. It was interesting to watch while we were in queue. There were probably 20 people ahead of us. To take the test you drove through a gate, made a right and did some basic maneuvers then exited on the left out another gate.

Except every 3rd or 4th person would enter the gate, make an immediate left and go out the exit gate with no further testing. Once I had my turn, I immediately figured out what was going on.

When you got in your car, outside the gate, the tester would get in and said "Your test begins now. Please pull through the gate, make an immediate right, following all traffic signs and signals as if you were on the road".

On the gate, before you went in was a HUGE stop sign, probably 3x the size of a normal one. What was happening was that people were blowing through the gate without stopping, told to make a left and exit. They had failed.

Here are today's numbers

If recoveries are 136,152 and fatalities are 64,742, there will be 200K more fatal cases out of current 913,620 active cases (913620*64742/(64742+136152)). Please wake me up and say that this is a nightmare and I am wrong.

If you look carefully either pnemona and regular flu are on the serious decline or they are just calling everything COVID. I overall deaths steady even slight decline. (ignore the last row is not complete data)

There's something wrong with your numbers, at least based on my local experience. Our admissions have been 33% of those that have tested positive, and of those 67% have been discharged, and the fatality rate has been 18% (again of those admitted). The fatality rate is 5% of the total positive.

Still not good of course, but better than your calculations.

I am willing to take anything better and hope it will not be that bad.
