It just doesn't make sense that they would have built a crap intake to cause that. Someone mentioned emissions and tuning specifically at that rpm range to satisfy euro? requirements resulting in a power loss. That makes more sense and an ECU tweak would soon fix it up.

I was the one that mentioned that it may have been to manipulate emissions testing...being I've done it for OEM's in the past.
It could be a number of things.

Something you guys should check, most NA (Impreza/Legacy) Subaru cars over this side of the world suffer fuel starvation on long right hand turns when fuel tank is just 25% full, only noticable once they are boosted.

The BRZ is probably fine but give it a good solid test, a tightish roundabout under full power and see if it cuts out or not. This has never been a problem with the factory turbocharged Subaru's.

Turbo or NA, they all do it. The difference is that some turbo models come with a built in surge tank to help fight the issue. The tanks are the same. Also, the fuel demand is higher on the turbo engines too...

I think the auto can take the abuse since it isn't a lot of torque gained with this turbo. A lexus IS250 auto still makes more torque(184tq) with the same tranny.

213hp, 160tq.

Gains: 50hp, 25tq!! That's at the wheels!!!

Flywheel totals with Turbo: 255hp, 205tq (estimated)

I would think if the standard engine makes 151tq to the crank then all you would need to do is add 25 wtq which is probably around 180-something and not 205 ctq.
