Software tuning or a header+racerom
A noob question here.
What is the best way to get rid of the torque dip in the OEM 17+ BRZ. Just software tune or is it really necessary to get a header setup? Does the header actually allow you to still pass State of CA smog inspection, with say a switch back to a map that will allow for this? Or how does passing smog work? Thanks! |

Best way? Header and a tune.
Software tune only is not enough. It can help flatten the dip a little bit and improve response, but the dip will never go away without a proper header and tune. You can reference the myriad of dyno charts and results from people throughout this forum. In California, a new car is smog exempt for 8 years, except during title transfers. Used cars are exempt for 8 years following their model year. If you ever need to smog the car, you will have to reinstall the stock header and flash the ECU back to a stock map. |

You best optin may be to keep car stock but just run E85 fuel and tune . Then come smog check tume flash back to petrol and petrol tune. |

To pass smog in CA, you would need both your cats to pass smog. If your aftermarket header does not have a cat (even if it did, its still a coinflip if theyre pass or not)then you gotta install your oem headers then you could pass.
