Are the rear and front seat belt pretensiors interchangeable??

I was recently in an accident and had to repair both seat belt pretensioners, the pass. Side locked up again and I was wondering, does anyone know if the rear and front seat belts are interchangeable? So that way I can remove the rear and put it in the front, I hardly ever have more than 1 other person in my car at a time so that wouldn’t be much of an issue for me, thanks.

They are not, the parts look completely different in the servica manual components view.

*** WARNING ***

Safety restraint components like airbags and seat belt pretensioners and reels are >>> NOT <<< repairable. They are primary safety devices on which lives depend. >>> Replace ONLY <<

I always thought if seatbelts and associated parts are damaged then they must be replaced, not repaired..

I feel sorry for the 2nd,3rd of 4th owner.. totally oblivious..

Anything can be repaired, it just matters what access to tools you have and skill. That being said, trust the hands that work on your safety systems, or YOLO it

No, they are not.

When a pretensioner blows, it actually destroys itself to retract and jam in that position.

Everything can be repaired, usually if you have to ask it's beyond your means. this case applies in this context with OP

A pretensioner uses

an explosive charge

To retract either the seat belt buckle release or (usually) shoot ball bearings into the reel mechanism to retract and jam it.

They are not serviceable components for very good reason, they are both dangerous pyrotechnics and life saving devices.

There are companies that can, and do, replace the pretensioner, charge and retractor. So they can be safely rebuilt. Not sure it can be done at home by just anybody though.

Rebuilt SRS parts may be illegal depending on the jurisdiction because rebuilders did a bad job of it and people were injured.

Here, even good-used parts are regulated.
