Actually I take that back on the "precise cracking" thing. Not sure where I heard it, but I don't think it applies on my car.
Anyway, here's what they look like on last gen Civics, and I'm going to guess their installation is similar: http://www.8thcivic.com/forums/10167754-post8.html This one didn't go so well because you can see all the x-acto knife scratches around. I'm OCD so something like that would drive me nuts.

Yeah I saw that thread which led me to believe the emblem should be removable. I also found many Toyota owners including newer Toyota's with the similar designed emblem to ours that removed theirs and no airbag poof. Just gotta disconnect the battery. I'll tell you what I'm going to do:
1. Disconnect battery 2. Disconnect and remove airbag 3. Remove emblem semi-carefully not to F up anything. 4. Fill in the gap where the emblem used to sit with the pouring-style plastidip, in a can. 5. Fill it enough to be as flush with the rest of the steering wheel as possible. 6. Spray the entire airbag with SEM Satin Black Paint http://semproducts.com/product-catal...gs/color-coat/ 7. Reattach. Here's why this will work. This is what the airbag will look like after the SEM paint, very OEM-like.

1. Crash the car.
2. Airbags deploy. 3. Convince insurance company to pay for 86 airbag. 4. Profit. Or Buy the BRZ instead. Or Get over it because you shouldn't be staring at the wheel while you drive.

Most Toyota steering wheels aren't flat and are like exterior badges, but some Toyota wheels look like this: ![]() Now I was thinking, someone should make a silicone based overlay that looks like that but instead is an oval. Black background, chrome emblem (or whatever combo, the sponsor at my forum can do all sorts of combinations). This is what the overlay looks like. Totally safe. ![]() What it looks like installed: ![]() Of course, it isn't "true" JDM since non-USDM GT86s have a 86 on the wheel and not the Toyota logo, but if it's just for getting rid of that Scion logo or having an original yet OEM look, I think it might be a good alternative. Now hopefully someone who can do something like this starts working on one and comes and becomes a sponsor in here (the one at my forum is Graffixpressions). Just throwing it out there.

I just had a thought. There's replacement Toyota airbag emblems on eBay and such. I know cuz I was looking to replace my emblem before. You think the scion emblem on the fr-s is the same size as other toyotas?

I did it, here's the thread. Going over to a dealership now to find the correct sized Toyota emblem.

Dealerships aren't gonna have any airbag emblems by itself, as far as I've seen at least.

This is what I will do, find a leather craftman. Then bring him this logo(below) tell him to replicate it same radius size of the scion logo on the right leather color of my steering wheel. Then ask him to put stiches on the outside contour(round). Then I will glue it to a rigid but thin cardboard so that when I will apply it to my steering wheel, the scion logo under will not appear throught it.

Why not create a leather cut out with the 86 logo on it that fits perfectly over the scion logo? Someone could make a small fortune. |

This is going over board.
It's not a Toyota. It was outsourced to Subaru. Made in a Subaru plant by Subaru employees. Toyota only provided capital, some engineering and a fuel system which is now in question as to it's reliability. No matter what you do, it will never be a Toyota. |
