Anyone tried debadging the steering wheel?

Read title. Is there maybe an 86 logo underneath or nothing at all? I really don't want mine there, whether there's nothing to replace or something to replace it. But I don't want it to look terrible if removed.

EDIT: I did this
Here's my tutorial!

To my knowledge, the only way to get rid of the Scion logo on the steering wheel is to order a JDM spec air bag cover. I've seen them for as little as $600 and as much as $800. But as time wears on I'm sure the pricing will come down some.

Yep, this was the same issue for us Honda people that wanted legit red Type-R steering wheel badges.
I can only see very few people going through with this (full JDM conversionists) since the money is better well spent elsewhere.

I'm not going to go completely crazy but I will change out the emblems on front and rear, hopefully the steering wheel, and the little text on the radio. So far that's all I know about that's in plain vision. I just don't want Scion to be visible anywhere in plain sight.

^Yeah I feel you though. When and if I do get an FR-S, I'd swap the exterior badges, but having a Scion badge inside kind of bothers me.

The cheaper alternative we had were overlays. Convincingly close to the real thing unless you look up close and it did the job. Not sure if such a thing could be done here though since the Scion badge is an oval and the 86 is a circle.

Who knows though, maybe someone will make a feasible alternative to covering that badge.

This is pertinent to me interests. In to see if someone comes up with an ingenious solution that doesn't involve $600+.

I completely understand WHY everyone want's to swap badges but to be honest the Scion badge doesn't bother me personally. When people ask me what it is? I tell them that it is a Subaru designed by Toyota and badged a Scion in North America. That really throws them for a loop.

But seriously, I know that everyones perspective of Scion is "The Bread Box" and that the brand doesn't really have any cred. But it is possible that 10 years from now Scion could be thought of as youth driven sports brand. Stranger things have happened.

I will forever view the Scion brand as the even more failed version of 2 Fast 2 Furious with a neon background.

BUT I do however like your explanation of what the car is, I will use this from now on to tell people.

Uhhhh.... it's a Toyota with a Subaru motor and a Scion badge!

Moshpit37 07-19-2012 03:25 PM

At first I was thinking about doing the JDM conversion, but the more I think about it, if this ends up being the shot in the arm that turns the Scion brand into a legitimate sports car brand, then I'll be proud to say I owned one of the first ones.

But back on topic, the only real option right now is the entire $600 air bag cover. Sorry.

Contact someone in Aus/NZ/Eu and swap out bag covers. You get a Toyota, they get your Scion. Both of you will feel special.

We'll start a PR campaign to convince them how cool Scion is.

Word is that Europe likes neon flashing rave lights, maybe we can convince them that Scion is cool after all. Hell maybe they'll like the Scion iQ because it's so small and gets good MPGs!
