Anybody driving MT for a long time (in my case 47 years) you no longer put any more thought into shifting than you do steering or braking. It is not more "engaging" when you don't even realize you are doing it. My car may as well be an AT for all the thought or even awareness I put into shifting.
If you have to think about each shift you are probably doing it wrong anyway!

That's pretty judgemental. I enjoy feeling it work no less than I did when I started driving the old Ferguson when I was 8. Every shift counts. I call that being in the moment and paying attention.

That is just as much or possibly even more judgmental.
You can honestly say you pay attention to every shift every day? You concentrate on what you are doing and in your mind say "shift now"?

Yep, pulling a wagon full of hay, with a tractor with 21 drawbar HP, one had to know his gears .... AND how to use a clutch.

Yup 100% It's a passion. It's not a "say" thing. It's a "feel" thing. Great enjoyment of practicing good technique does not require racing. It can be felt just as much in performance of the mundane.

Same vintage orchard tractor. Hell, I still occasionally "dump the hay."

Yep, as you may recall, pulling a disk with a 21 HP tractor was challenging when you thought you could shift from 1st to 2nd. Flatfoot shift (throttle wide open) clutch-shift, timing was everything.

(some kids today, "oh, I have a hard time shifting my twin" - and they have a car that weighs less than the tractor itself, and has 160 plus WHP)

I wonder if drawbar HP is the same as WHP?

Yes. Every shift isn't perfect yet. Every shift is a learning opportunity.
