When you buy used engines, do you perform a test like a compression test before purchasing?
Some resellers of engines will do so.. but for the price of these used engines we've found that it is more economical to buy a wrecked car that runs from the insurance auction, pull the motor and part the rest out. Sad.. but yeah.

Generally if the car was running when crashed and wasn't either in a) bad bad front end crash or b) flooded - the engine will be fine. Just look for broken sensors and junk like that and swap those bad parts over from the other motor. We've had to replace the cam sensors often on wrecked ones and the water pump on one hard hit car. Sometimes idler pulleys but that's more just wear.. grab the best of whatever is there.

Thanks Dave. Will keep an eye on the cam sensors as it seems that they break/become damage on used engines. Are the 2013-2016 cam sensors all interchangeable between years?

As far as I know, yes. @Opie could check the part numbers. They fail occasionally but we probably have several available for cheap if you need some. We pull them from every parts car so probably have 8 or 10 laying around.

Thanks Dave. Still looking for a 15 or 16 reaonably priced engine. Only been coming across many 2013's which I am trying to avoid. There are some 2014's that are about CAD$2500-$3000 range and I am just reading/researching if that year has any known flaws/issues, say, something similar to the 2013 valve springs.

Cam sensors are interchangeable, '15 & up have the latest version/part number from the factory.

#12 cleaned up pretty nice...60k, 6MT car. Clean title...knocking motor. Only mods are Tein coilovers as low as they'll go, K&N Typhoon Intake (Its for sale!), Valenti LED Taillights, Quarter window louvers, a carbon fiber spoiler and a homemade cat back exhaust.

Number #11 should arrive Tuesday to donate a kidney...

...I mean engine...

I heard a rumor that #13, a Series Blue, has been acquired. I think my mouse is malfunctioning, it just clicks on the bid button uncontrolably!

We really should at least take video of the engine swaps for #11/#12. And the repairs to #13 I suppose. Probably more YT videos of FT86 damage repair out there than there is for the engine swap.
