Random Thoughts - Part Deux
Quote:
Most tracks run counter clockwise and that is what I have been assuming was the issue. But I haven't met anyone else that is burning through hubs like this. I talk to almost every other 86 owner I come across at the track and have come across two other people that have replaced a right front, but that is it I didn't buy OEM hubs this time. If the cheap ones last a year I'll keep buying them at 65/ea. I have only had a few off track excursions in the last few years so I don't think it is from taking a beating and roads in my area are generally pothole free. I run a more track oriented alignment but I have made compromises for tire wear and I run stock wheels on the street so it can't be from running high offset wheels. I must be doing something wrong.

I've just started watching the first episode of this. It has made me laugh a couple of times. A show that makes me laugh has to get high ratings from me.

Possible try disassembling the hub after a few hundred miles, check, re lube and reassemble. Sometimes bearings will seat a little further after running for a while. Might also verify torque wrench specks as sometimes they will change calibration. Also check spindle to make sure it has not been bent.

Front hubs are sealed bolt-on affairs. There's pretty much nothing you can do (which comes to mind, anyway) to damage it unless you're hammering on the axle. Also no real way to do preventative maintenance.

I am going to cut this one apart carefully and see if I can see what type of failure it is. Could be contamination, grease breakdown from heat, or just wear.

Looking back on limited edition 86/BRZ. We had more than 20... if you count worldwide. That’s pretty good rec, I think.

Im still upset that as far as subaru based we didnt get an "S209" or something special package. the highest performance we got was a BRZ TS, which I guess can be akin to the 14R scion. I also wish the hakone came with the performance package. that woulda been rad. ( says the guy who bought two white 86s...) |
