If that was someone's primary concern then they would buy a 4000 lb CUV. All modern vehicles sold in 2020, even the ones with 1 star crash ratings, are ridiculously safe.

A 60's Impala, or something, virtually anything with a over waist ONLY seat belt, you know the ones that would cut people in half in an accident. People are concerned with safety now, get over it.

The Miata has to meet safety regs too, and it's barely 100 lb. heavier than when the 1990 NA was introduced. Likewise the FT86 is precisely a modern S13 240SX, and weighs barely if any more. Meanwhile a modern 911 is visibly MUCH bulkier than a 1990 and is 400-500 lb. heavier. I don't think it got there because "safety". It got there by becoming a much bigger and more luxurious car.
