I will add that it would be great if somebody showed me the crash test results for a Miata.

Went from 2100 pounds to 2340 pounds. This is about the same percentage increase that every other car in production for the period went through.
Somehow the later generation NA Miatas weight just under 2300lb, so that was the one I'm thinking of. I have no doubt the 2100 lb quoted weight excludes power steering, ABS, LSD, more than 2 speaker stereo, AC. Whereas the ND includes all those items.

Nobody buys a 2800 lb car to be safe. If that was someone's primary concern then they would buy a 4000 lb CUV. All modern vehicles sold in 2020, even the ones with 1 star crash ratings, are ridiculously safe.

Nobody buys them to be safe may be a bit of a blanket statement but the point remains that one of the ways the Miata was kept lighter is that they are that much less safe. Whether it is an acceptable risk to the buyers is not relevant to the fact that they are not even rated.

No doubt about that with the NA Miata. Photos of those cars after they flip are not pleasant sights!

I personally would only consider buying cars that at least have a decent rating.

That's also one hell of an opinion. So no one is buying 2020 Civics because they are safe, while also being reliable, 4 door etc? No, not one person buys a Civic because of a safety rating, people only buy them because Vtec bro(which is gone). Even the 86 has a good safety rating, and this WILL definitely affect potential buyers when looking at this car.

And in what world would a sane person consider a 1 star crash rating vehicle as "ridiculously safe"? What are you comparing that to? A 60's Impala, or something, virtually anything with a over waist ONLY seat belt, you know the ones that would cut people in half in an accident.

People are concerned with safety now, get over it.

Ah yes, unless they have to actually put forth effect to be safe themselves. Which they don't.

Most don't care. They're lazy.

Just read through it.. possibly a new 7speed dual clutch in the works? One can dream. On another note, the current GT4 car unfortunately has an automatic transmission not a dual clutch.

Seems like Toyota is positioning the Supra as the automotive iPhone; with vast improvements ensuing buyer's remorse on semi-annual basis with each forthcoming model.

Sorry, that's BS. Instead they're using the 911 to fill the gap that used to be done by the 911 + 928. If the 928 still existed the 911 wouldn't be so bloated.
To be fair, if the 928 still existed the 911 wouldn't exist today.

Porsche was going to kill it decades ago... but P-Car fans......

911 is so much larger because of safety and the Cayman/Boxster fill in the smaller size. And superior dynamics if you can get over not owning a 911

The Miata has to meet safety regs too, and it's barely 100 lb. heavier than when the 1990 NA was introduced. Likewise the FT86 is precisely a modern S13 240SX, and weighs barely if any more. Meanwhile a modern 911 is visibly MUCH bulkier than a 1990 and is 400-500 lb. heavier. I don't think it got there because "safety". It got there by becoming a much bigger and more luxurious car.

I think, it's both safety AND luxury that adds Posche's weight. Miata & 86 are both lightweight cars... but if you compared stock performance, they don't come near 911 (also price tag lol). To perform in top performance, it need chassis reinforcement, suspension, engine, transmission engineering needing to be more advance and required to be advance to keep driver and passenger safely on the road. Can't be like Mustang or other Muscle cars just adding power and put Brembos and call it good (add Mustang meme here lol). Now, cuz of price tag, there's always rich ppl wanting luxury shit on sports car. Which adding pointless stuff making it heavier than it need.
