Nope. The 1990 FT86 was the S13 240SX. Same size, same weight. The End.

The only car that has gotten smaller (compared to its replaced gen) is the ND.

I really wish cars came in different sizes like clothes. Cars nowadays are Large/XL. They should offer a scaled down 9/16th scale in Meadium.

When will the Supra get a proper dual clutch transmission?

The 6th gen Camaro is smaller and lighter than the 5th gen.

There will be an equal number of people thinking the exact opposite. I would probably prefer the Supra interior cause I really dislike the old school gauge cluster on the Camaro. Everything is just big and bulky and American. The only selling point over the Supra is the option of a manual gearbox. Both have crap visibility. I highly doubt there are too many people cross-shopping the two. The demographic groups the two cars cater to are completely different, have different likes and brand loyalties, american muscle vs JDM. The Camaro never even crosses my mind, and I don't care how good it apparently is, I would just never buy it. I don't like the looks, I don't like the interior, I don't like the idea of driving a Chevrolet. With the Supra, I don't like that it's auto. If I won it in a raffle, I'd keep it. I like it but I wouldn't pay money to own one.
It's really not a moot point. I only know one person that has purchased a new Supra. And his previous car was a Camaro. An SS 1LE, which he unfortunately crashed. If he wasn't interested in the Zupra then he probably would have gotten another Camaro.

I'm sure there are outliers, but I think - in North America at least - the automotive industry is a very bi-partisan affair.

Technically the new Supra has as well. May be taller and wider, but it's shorter and lighter.

Gen 4
Wheelbase: 100.4 in
Length: 177.7 in
Width: 71.3 in
Height: 50.2 in
Passenger volume: 72 cu ft
Cargo volume: 10 cu ft
Curb weight: 3480 lb

Gen 5
Wheelbase: 97.2 in
Length: 172.5 in
Width: 73.0 in
Height: 50.9 in
Passenger volume: 51 cu ft
Cargo volume: 10 cu ft
Curb weight: 3372 lb

As for the DCT, likely never. DCTs are typically longer so some cutting would probably have to be involved. But I'd be down if they could manage it!

Thank the government, car companies and buyers that don't like to die for the changes.
That picture is also very deceptive.
The 2020 is only 4 inches longer, 1.5 inches wider and 2 inches higher. It isn't the David and Goliath scenario the pic would have you think.

Why does it need one? The BMW ZF is a very well configured box, smoother than a DCT when you're not on it and I bet you would barely notice the difference when on the move as it changes gear very quickly. At no point did I think that I needed the gear changes to be quicker.

So Mazda, a company of limited means, can manage to keep the Miata the same size/weight as it was 30 years ago. But Porsche cannot with their 911?

Sorry, that's BS. Instead they're using the 911 to fill the gap that used to be done by the 911 + 928. If the 928 still existed the 911 wouldn't be so bloated.

And exactly what Miata weighs the same now as 30 years ago?
Went from 2100 pounds to 2340 pounds. This is about the same percentage increase that every other car in production for the period went through.

Well to be fair the Miata's scope is pretty much the same as it always has been, and its an economy car for all intents and purposes.

While Porsche seems to go more and more tech/lux heavy as its perceived as not just a sports car brand, but a lux brand.
