WHY? because they were nearly direct competitors. Mitsubishi knew that if Subaru was selling cars, they were giving up business because they had a car that was such a close competitor... they upped the ante a little and boom. Shortly there after, Subaru announced they were bringing the STi to America and it would have more power than the EVO.

You are right, several companies tried to bring a small convertible to market and none of them competed properly with the MX-5, but I think that is a very niche market... the number of people that want a 2 seat convertible is small... much smaller than the number that would want a 2+2 coupe. One could even say that the FT-86 twins are already scavenging sales from the Genesis coupe market... I think Hyundai thinks so too... which is why the new Genesis coupe 2.0T was bumped to 270 hp.
those cars are very much about numbers. the frs is not. besides, if nissan has a 250hp car for the same price as our base frs, how is a a more expensive frs going to compete?

Seriously bro? It honestly doesn't matter if the car exists yet or not, just look at the GTI and ask yourself if it stands up to the twins? When motortrend ran a comparo the GTI came in 5th and the Twins took first/second.

That FWD "mini-Z" is going to need to rival a rice crispy treat in weight if it's going to stand a chance.

yeah serious. there are a couple of fwd examples over the years that i think compare favorably to the frs. if nissan wanted to, i think they could make another. i dont know why you are bringing up the gti

right... those cars are about the numbers because they are such close competitors... right now there really isn't a competitor to the FR-S/BRZ, but if Nissan (I say Nissan, only because they have the heritage, but it could be anyone) comes out with something that is a competitor... i.e. similar weight, 2+2, 25K ish, and about 225-250 hp.. suddenly the FRS/BRZ is not the only game in town and they'll be forced to compete or lose sales.

I personally think they've had plans for a turbo model all along... there is a lot of room underhood for a top mount

This SPECIFIC example is going to be touting the same Hp as the FRS and I mentioned the GTI because the 2012 variant sports the same Hp as the FRS with over 50ft-lbs and it doesn't measure up.

The FWD examples that compare to the FRS have more grunt than the FRS does, call it a compensating factor for having to fight the laws of physics. This is not me saying FWD cars are bad or "wrong wheel drive", there are quite a few FWD cars I wouldn't mind having but unless this mini-Z is lighter than a Miata it's not going to stand up to the twins.

if that car ever happens (which i doubt it will since i think you are asking for an unreasonable amount of car for such little money), i fail to see how a toyota could compete if they already are at that price point. they cant just give away turbos

the gti isnt going to compete because its trying to fill a different market. things like the itr and msp are down on power but still are comparable . im not saying i think this thing is going to be a competitor to the frs, im just saying we shouldnt be judging cars that dont even yet exist

I guess Nissan could try and copy the Megane Trophy. That's about as winning a FWD car you can get and Nissan and Renault are the same company. Even still, I think I'd end up with the BRZ. I did make a deliberate choice for the BRZ over other powerful, sporty cars which are a dime a dozen these days for a reason (fun).

Let them come. We all benefit. I am still working on the g-spot modulator for the passenger seat.

Well, Nissan wouldn't wanna cannibalize the sales of the 370z. They would rather make a lighter, smaller displacement Z car than come out with a new silvia.

It's bad news for them. Having built SR20s for the past 10 years, my heart is still there for Nissan. However, the BRZ has captured me as well. Unless Nissan styles a car that looks as great as the 370Z, lighter, with a back seat... in other words... a new silvia, I will be in the BRZ game.

I more than rate to comment on this! I owned a 1998 240SX SE which I purchased new in August'98. After 11yrs of ownership I sold this car. What a @#$%^& mistake! There has was not a better car in this class! Nissan pull your head out of your a**! You stopped making the S15 and that was it?

While waiting for something better to come along, I reluctantly traded sides and bought a Honda Civic SI sedan. This was great...if you like front wheel drive cars. I however I do not! My SI failed to "set my soul afire" as did my R31 Skyline and 240Sx SE did!

With the 370Z being powerful yet not practical, what else was one to do! Now I'm forced to turn to Toyota after a three year wait! Well Nissan, it is clear that you don't give a !@#$% about my auto needs! And now you want to attempt to play "catch up" with Subaru / Toyota? I'll receive my new Scion FRS tomorrow! Thanks for nothing Nissan!
