Doesn't sound like a honk, sounds like metal to metal, that sounds pretty bad

Master Cylinder

Has the noise ever came back ever since you replaced the Clutch Master Cylinder?

I took my BRZ in for some warranty work at the end of last winter, one of those issues was this honking noise. Wouldn't you know it, as soon as I brought it in the honking stopped. Turns out, the honking noise is VERY temperature (and possibly humidity) sensitive. I happened to bring the car in on a random 70 degree day. No dice. Got the car back and sure enough, it was mostly gone.

Well, it's winter again here in NY and almost as soon as the temperate entered the 40s the old honk came back. It seems to be at it's loudest between 30* and 45* but I haven't quite nailed down a pattern.

Anyway, I waited for a nice cold patch and brought it in. It took some convincing to have them try the master cylinder on the clutch but they did the work and that fixed my issue. I've had several days since in the bad temperature range and all's been silent. Love it.

Also had them tackle the crickets while it was in...new high-pressure fuel pump and now I don't know what to do with all of the silence. I'm going to need a better stereo.

Thanks again to everyone for all of your help!
How much did the fix cost at the dealership?

Just lube it all up well. Cost me $8 for a tube of grease and the noise never happened again.

Where to put the grease? I can't pinpoint what is making the honking sound.

You need to get to the shafts for the master and slave and grease them up.

Forgive me, I'm not a pro. Do you have a diagram of where this is located? I'm not sure what the clutch master/slave cylinder looks like.

Oh, thanks! That looks very easy. Interestingly, I also have that squeaky pedal noise too so maybe this will kill two birds with one stone.

I'll grab some grease this weekend and report back on if it worked.

If that doesn't do it there are further steps that can be done but start with this and see.

No. I used a lithium grease that I had kicking around. You don't need much just a thin coat (not like he put on).
