Does it involve a doctor's appointment/prescription?

It's pretty common in many grades of homes around here, not just expensive ones.

I have a friend that uses "domicile" in normal conversation and thought it would be fun to try it out lol. He's a software engineer though, they be strange folk...

I mean heat is what typically causes a mass of molecules to expand in volume except in a few specific cases.

And if you want to get molecular...
Heat is what raises the temperature (kinetic energy in random directions) of the gas molecules in chamber. Those molecules bounce off each other and the walls of chamber, imparting some of their energy to whatever they hit, thus increasing the block/cylinder temperature (yes, solid molecules vibrate against other molecules in the solid). The average force of molecules hitting against a surface area is what we call pressure. As the pressure in the chamber increases, due to the increase in temperature, the piston has enough total force to overcome any resistance to motion and achieves a unified kinetic energy vector, along with all the objects it is attached to (such as a vehicle drive train).

Yes, unless you get it from the Indian medicine man, down on the reservation. -

Electric heat (not heat pumps) is one of the big contributors to the circle of poverty that low income people battle all the time. It is relatively cheap and easy to install in low income housing so is used extensively by landlords and low end builders. It is however much more expensive to run since it is incredibly inefficient but they don't care about that part since that is not their problem. People end up paying so much more than other fuels that they get stuck in the same sort of place

Sooo.... in the end it is still the expanding gas not the heat that is creating the pressure.

Spuds was making the thermodynamic distinction between transducers and engines. You guys are both on point-ish. All heat engines are turned over by simply introducing heat into them. The difference is in how that heat is introduced. An electrically heated Stirling engine is still a heat engine because it converts heat to work. An electric motor is a transducer because, while the process does involve transfer of heat, it does not rely on it.

I hope this is not a very stupid question, and I'm not wrong about the sort orders.
Heating a house is direct heat transfer. Moving mass is work. Both are measured in the same units.

The cost per unit of chemical energy available from hydrocarbons is still way way cheaper than it is to buy the same quantity directly from the grid.

It's easy to get pretty decent efficiency out of a gas or oil furnace so it's cheaper than heating up wires.

Efficiency of the most amazingly modern internal combustion engines will always compare horribly to that of typical electric traction motors.

Honestly I didn't read his whole post. Just catching that part made "heat" look odd as an explanation and with more context makes sense. Believe it or not I do understand above 6th grade science

Of course! I immediately saw both of your points including your justified interpretation of his. It's also the first time I've tried to explain it without using maths.

I got you guys!
