Ya know, I almost hope I don't like the 2nd generation. Then I still get to be OG.

...

That's "original goober", because there is no way in hell anyone could think I'm gangsta...

Im still betting only a update with some shit badges and stickers to keep the kids happy, maybe some parts bin "special final fantasy edition".

I'm still speculating a good night to the twins.

I would be fine with that.

Subaru isn't interested in RWD, they just build what their told to by Toyota.

I vote good night twins

The ONLY official info we have is that they are indeed "working" together on a second gen twin. That is indisputable.
However what that second gen will be is a total unknown at this point. It could be a suitable successor or a total abomination with an 86 or BRZ badge. This we will have to wait and see.

Whatever the new BRZ/86 might be, I think it will be 3-4 years before we see it. That seems to be about how long it takes to develop a new model and introduce it, from any manufacturer. If Toyota and Subaru only recently announced and confirmed that they're 'working' on it, I suspect it's early in the development process. There have been no spy shots or prototypes at car shows, which I think also confirms the early stage of the development process. Other than Toyota and Subaru's announcement of 'working on it', all that's been seen are drawings by questionable sources, which isn't worth the paper it's printed on (or the electrons used to create the digital images).

A lot can happen in 3-4 years. A global recession (which is likely, led by the US) could tank sports car sales (as it has every other time it's happened), and could cause them to delay or shelve the project. Bottom line, I don't think anyone should hold their breath for the new car showing up at dealers anytime soon.

Agree except that it is not likely that development work stopped between agreements. I would expect to see something on the lots by late 2021 or early 2022. They are probably further along than we think but have just managed to keep any work in progress well under wraps.

A global recession led by China you mean. More specifically Hong Kong even.

Subaru's document clearly shows that production is starting on a full model change, which means a new generation. An update like 2017+ would be listed as a BMC not an FMC.

And one thing to be happy about is that it won't be an EV......

Well at least the new "Mustang" is an as well as vehicle instead of an instead of one.
Mustang will just become a sub badge of Ford much like Scion was for Toyota. Can't wait for the Mustang Pinto150 truck to be released.

Hi all, 2nd post. As a non-BRZ owner, the rumors of the FA24DIT going in a next gen BRZ have opened up this car as a possibility for me once again. I own that motor in my Ascent and it is a beast. Gobs of torque on tap.

Really, really hoping the rumors are true!
Take my money again Subaru!
