I'd rather spend the other $25k to put the upgrades of my choice on myself. (and get way more for the money)

Compared to US/Canada Pricing yes, but in Australia the GTS (premium) version of the 86 is $40K, so an extra $10K for those brakes, body kit, wheels and rubber, exhaust wouldn't be too bad

That brake kit is pointless essex parts is about to release a BBK AP Racing kit for around 2-2.5k. Two options on sizes.

If anybody spends that much on that car they deserve a quadruple facepalm.

Looks like she comes with all the TRD parts available for it

Originally was going to delete this but it seems only the Kiwi's knew that this is happening .

Actually it is a TRD upgrade of a base 86 (same as Oz GT) not a GT86 (same as Oz GTS) so you miss out on some of the goodies the GT (Oz GTS) has.

They may look at doing a GT86 (ie: Oz GTS) TRD but it is expected to be NZ$5k more at NZ$68,486 being the $5k difference in our base price.

BTW doesn't come with all the TRD kit. No TRD shocks to lower it, Sway bars, braces etc.

I'm sort of glad it's that expensive because I at least know I can't properly afford it, and not the 'dishearteningly close enough, yet regret inducing' price of say 5 - 7K difference from the GT86 I've ordered, this way I know I'm a poor yet financially responsible S.O.B

This still pales in comparison to the Honda Civic Type-R Mugen that they sold a couple years back. It was something like $64,000 in 2010!!! Who the f@%# pays sixty-four grand for a Civic??? It doesn't even look good!

Eh, a regular WRX sedan is $45,990 there. It's hard to compare car prices in different counties. They have different taxes and exchange rates. Regardless, I think we pay just about the cheapest prices for cars in the world.

02-05 was the last good Civic Type-R, IMO. Didn't get dressed up like they do now to appeal to people who want an everyday car that is fun to drive, rather then a fun to drive car that you can live with as an everyday car.

Petrol is also more than $2 a litre in Nz. http://www.pricewatch.co.nz/pricewatch.aspx

(That is $1.59 per litre in US$ - which is about $6.01 US Per gallon).

Kiwi's get a hard wrap (Im one myself).... everything is expensive, and a high pay packet isn't exactly child's play like it seems to be in other country's - hence why we all leave Nz!

new zealand has a very proud and long motorsport history, and this alone will have a select few signing up to buy one, NZ has the highest exotic car ownership per capital in the world (not hard when there's only 4.5 mil people but still very high)

i know of two christchurch based auto collectors who snap up any "limited" model if they get the chance, both with collections over 100 cars and growing, though one has moved his cars to a safer location due to the earth quakes,
these guys own EVERY mitsi evo model and subie wrx rc, most of the toyota rally cars going back to the late 70's and countless euro's,
(edit; i asked both of them why they didnt have any honda models and they both pretty much gave the same answer "not worth sh!t in the long run" i had a giggle)
i'd buy it purely for the collectors value, (if it does get the TRD plate and limited edition tag)

toyota made the "black limited" AE86 that sold for almost twice the cost of the top gt-apex model. and nowadays collectors are asking for over $60,000 usd for the black limited in mint trim,

its not stupid, its price of admission,
