Saying radar detectors are a intent to speed is the same as saying getting high performance tires or a big wing is intent too though.

Not the same thing. The ONLY purpose a radar detector serves is to warn you there is radar so you can go the speed limit and avoid a ticket. You can try to spin it any way you want but it is like saying you carry a full burglary kit just in case you lock yourself out of the house.

Wizard!! How do you know about my burglary kit!! It was a Christmas gift from my sweet ol' grandma and it also just so happens purchase and possession of lock picks is legal in the State of Florida.

i do actually have a full lockout set in my toolbox for the random occasion.

and i know at least 5 ways to get into any house. varying in destructiveness.

Insurance is all over the place. Sometimes it really seems like they have this big wheel of fortune wheel thing and spin that thing and hand out rates.
I will say though that after getting my credit score pretty high high up there, that seems like it made a huge difference. 3 vehicles including the FRS and I'm at about $1k a year.
I'd imagine if you really pushed them for an answer they would just give you the old standby "California is a high risk state" excuse.

Meh. True or false, really don't care. Insurance is what it's going to be. Still going to continue to follow the speed limits and respect the law. Doesn't make a difference who's "#1" on anything because it depends on SO many things.

Also, I'm with Tcoat on the radar detector thing. Why spend hundreds of dollars on a devise to avoid tickets when you could go the speed limit for free?

I get completely opposite results of what you experienced. It will be a little noisy around certain newer cars but I have become accustomed to ignoring it when it's clear that's what is going on. It really is an unfair advantage I have with that thing now. I use a Uniden R3, a little spendy but, so worth it. Ran a Passport 8500 X50 before this but this is just is a totally unreal tool to reach very far out there. Miles away before I even see them now. Even in heavy congested areas it's still getting them past a mile out.
I don't advocate ignorant speeding but when we are driving with the "speeding" flow of traffic or in my case below the PSL because I was watching him tail me to see what he was doing, it really makes driving much more enjoyable since I'm not looking over my shoulder waiting for some silly 5mph over ticket since the car looks fast.
Last ticket was like 15ish years ago before I had one. It was a speedtrap in Virginia going from 65>55>45 so quick letting off the gas wouldn't have stopped them from giving out tickets. Virginia...the craphole only state in the U.S. where radar detectors are illegal. Gee, I wonder why.... Haven't come close to getting one since. Other than that last doofus that pulled me over last year lying about my speed that is. Schooled him on the laws about concealed carry and made him look stupid so he took off embarrassed without even a warning as it was a bogus stop to begin with. I mean I love cops for putting their lives on the line but man a few bad ones out there really screw up the reputation for the rest something terrible.

Just looked and the R3 is now down to $300 since the R7 now recently came out. Three bills is just one speeding tickets worth of electronics that will make driving much more relaxing.
Anybody thinking about getting one should have that R3 at the top of the list. Not for fast and furious driving but peace of mind.

Eh. In 26 years of driving I'm gotten one speeding ticket 20 years ago. I've owned a radar detector for about 0 days of my life.

And yes I do "normal" speeding every single day (speed of traffic).

Around here everybody speeds. The actual speed limit is considered to be 5 miles an hour above the posted limit. The posted speed limit on I-95 is 70 MPH. But everyone (including the cops) goes at least 75 MPH. And I noticed the other day that when my speedometer indicates 75 MPH, I'm actually going 77 according to the GPS.
And this doesn't seem to be a local phenomena. It seems like everywhere I go the rule is the same. (Maybe not in Canada, I don't know, never been there.)

my cars are all 2-3mph slower on gps than indicated.

which is a good thing for me.

I actually tried arguing this with a cop years ago when he pulled me over for 45 in a 40. Didn't work haha. At least it was just a citation and not a ticket though.

Same exact thing around here, going the PSL actually feels dangerous at times. Like you are about to get steam rolled if you aren’t going at least 10 mph over. I do feel like I’ve actually slowed down a little with the FR-S compared to my 2019 Corolla Hatchback. With the FR-S I like to try and keep the RPM around 3,000 - 3,500 on the highway in 6th gear, which equals about 65-70 mph. In the Corolla with a CVT it was much “easier” to go faster on the hwy. It’s not a faster car, just easier to speed on the freeway.
