Stories like this almost make we want to trade in my 2013 brz and get the latest and greatest. Almost.

But I do like the basic steering wheel and rawness if it.

I wonder if all electric is in the 86 future? Saw Tesla roadster and it has 600+ mile range and 0-60 1.9 seconds. $200k

Nah wait for second generation. The smoothness can be fixed by a header and tune. 1500$ max. Much cheaper than a new car.

I wish I still had my original but that set aside. I am glad I found this one when I did. Feels more special than getting a 2020

So true, anything you don't like about this car can be fixed with a decent budget and right knowledge. A lot of cars that can't be said for.

I’m really torn between going for a good deal on a current TRD (or Handling Package)86, or waiting to see what the 2nd gen will be. The main thing I want to know is what motor will be in the 2nd gen.

I’m totally ok with waiting another year or so, and we might get some official news from Toyota before then. I understand what you are saying though, life is short, and the current 86 is really good.

I’m really glad I didn’t wait. Something about getting this thing back before the next gen comes out in 2021 feels right.

I don’t miss my 2013 any more. This thing feels so much different from the 2013 FR-S

That’s what I hope I would feel like also. And, if the 2nd gen turns out to be incredible, they will be available to buy later. I think a 2019/2020 86 or BRZ would feel different enough from my 2016 to justify the change. Especially with the Handling Package!

I do like some elements of the FR-S styling better, specifically the front end and the fender emblems. Other than that the new 86 is better in every way, and a small bump in power.

Absolutely. I appreciate that cars are getting "better" all the time but I've learned to embrace the 1st-gen. I just don't have the money to go pursuing every new generation. And there really is a lot to be done to the bare-bones platform to make it more comfortable, faster, and better-looking. 1st-gen cloth seats and wheels were my biggest gripes. My next phase will be a modest power bump, which will certainly be greater than that 5hp mid-cycle refresh. One "advantage" to waiting so long is that the aftermarket feels more mature now-with the best products having survived the test of time and taken market share away from all those half-baked "me too" companies.
