The actual product is the members/users and the number of posts/visits the site receives. The data itself becomes meaningless if there is nobody coming to the site to use it. Now, of course if the mass of data disappeared tomorrow then we may not get the number of visitors we currently do but I highly doubt it would result in the closure of the site. A total loss of data would just mean there would be less "search nob" responses and the info would have to all start from scratch. So even if all the history is gone as long as the activity remains high enough to attract sponsors the site remains viable as a business.


I don't know, but have always suspected, that the roughly 20 minute daily down times at 9:am and 2:am (eastern time) were when the site backs up.

In my experience with other forums that have crashed the user base takes a massive hit when the knowledge base is lost. I think the data is worth more than you think it is.

Most likely although odd that it would have to be taken down to be backed up. The important data is likely in a database which should allow for online backups. Regardless, there isn't much of any other reason for the twice daily down times.

Forums were down as I was working on my car. Couldn't look up information or torque specs.


I guess I'm too reliant with the vast amount of knowledge and discussion that goes on here.

The site goes don every day around 9AM ( my time) which was about an hour and 16 minutes ago. It's anticipated

When I was installing springs a month ago around Oct 21, I believe it was down for a day. Then 2 months before that, at night it was down (was installing engine stuff). This is eastern time.



I know more recently it goes down in the morning, around 9AM like you say since I like to hop on before work.

Attempt to log on

If unable to log on talk to freinds, work on car, clean stuff, google news, science, weather and other stuff (my favorite) or watch a movie etc. etc.

Rinse and repeat

If all else fails.....meh, we built cars and bikes before the interwebs.
