That's great! Obviously when it comes to the tech field, it's usually quite the opposite haha. I think I'd label myself as an "extroverted introvert". Works well enough for me enough of the time.

Yes, definitely bust your ass in school. It won't always be easy. If you have a difficult time, be persistent. It'll pay off dividends both now and later.

If you have other questions just let me know and I'll try to help out!

I did 6hrs in person with a migraine so bad my eyes wouldn't stop streaming tears. I didn't get the job, but I figured out I didn't want it 4hrs in. Probably could have if I'd wanted it.

Sucks when that happens. Dedication and dealing with adversity points.

Problem solving, curiosity. A good tech interview has nothing to do with knowing everything, everything to do with working through, asking good questions, validating assumptions...

Keep it simple. You'll thank yourself in six months when you have to fix a bit and have to figure out how the stuff you were works.

Be humble. Be honest. Know how to figure things out. The specifics keep changing, so being a super coder today is meaningless.

I've recommended hires out of college with zero experience in any of the tech we use with great results. I've worked with "amazing" people who wrote illegible code and were horrible to work with.

Damn, yeah. I was having some pretty severe pain (and my pain tolerance for stomach issues is pretty decent usually..).

Can't imagine with a migraine..

Great advice here, @hpanju. Always good to see more perspectives!

Most of what cjd here clicks with me too and is always appreciated when seen with someone new to the industry. In fact, one of our newest junior engineers was basically fresh out of college, wasn't an 'ace' by any means, but was at the stage where you could tell easily he had a thirst for knowledge and would love to get practical with the tech we use. Big brownie points for me there.

That bolded part in particular is super relevant. I knew people who graduated with and before me completely lacking those traits. It's great when someone even fresh out of school is capable of those things and being resourceful when attempting to reason and learn about things.

Anywho, my four cents at this point . lol.

i'm halfway between having cold and not having one. when i take nyquil to help sleep when i just got over a cold, i have very realistic nightmares... figured i was stuffed up enough and all to justify taking it last night. i wasn't.

woke up in fright at 4:45(alarm at 5:20), had a dream that someone opened my garage door, took the car without the key, and tore everything else apart in the garage for anything of value. i distinctly recall walking around/between stuff all over the floor, in the spot the car normally sits. i knew it was a dream. i spent some time trying to convince myself it was a dream. i got up and checked the garage to be sure, while running through dozens of terrible possibilities. then i went into work tired.

Well, I'm feeling pretty bummed out. I go to the dive bar a couple days a week. There is usually a table full of guys my age. I sit at the bar. I can hear them talking about hunting, fishing, all things I have done. I buy them all drinks when I play the slot machines and win, but still they don't ask me to join. No one has bought me a drink. I try to casually join in with no luck. I'm still the guy from California.

So I just play the slot machine and leave. Now I know how the new kids at the high school felt.

I got the grand tour of our metal printing toys today. I'm amazed at how good we've gotten at it. Back in the late 90s I got to see the very first laser-fused parts made from titanium powder.

You just have to walk up to the biggest one and punch him right in the face. They'll accept you once they know you won't put up with any of their fucking redneck bullshit.
