Well this is for sure - nobody will ever mistake it for anything other than a Cybertruck. And that's the point for the EV market right, to make sure everyone knows what you're driving? Isn't that why all the hot-selling EVs (Tesla, Volt, Prius, Leaf, etc.) all look like cyber-guppy raindrops from the future instead of normal cars? Drive one of these and everyone will definitely stare.

I actually think the Cybertruck is so unabashedly ugly it'll be fun to see them on the road. Whether this approach will work on traditional truck buyers, I guess time will tell.

I'm 100% with him on the price/value as I said earlier. The tri-motor with a 500+ range goes a long way towards satisfying my requirements. If you held a gun to my head, and forced me to buy a Tesla, this is where I'd spend my money. Say what you will about the looks, at least it isn't bland like the other Tesla models.

I think the idea is that if someone were to camp or go off-roading for a week of fishing or hunting then 15 miles of range a day is actually pretty good, especially if some of that can charge that 4 wheeler daily without depleting their battery. The quiet drivetrain could be good for safari drives too where you don’t want to make loud noise that disturbs nature.

Especially if it's free and you don't have to work anymore mostly you'll be just driving for errands not commuting.

Those both make sense, I was thinking of it more in terms of my daily usage.

It will be interesting to see if they can do this and have it still be a rollup, vs lift, cover. I suppose you could design the panels in small strips required to roll up, but that will require some robust electrical connections.

The main thing about current generation EVs is that they are pushing the boundaries of design on purpose.

Nothing about an EV vehicle requires you to have the traditional vehicle layout. There's no conventional engine, fuel tank, and other stuff that requires you to have headlights on the corners, etc.

As most of this thread suggests, most people complaining miss the mark about this truck. If the curb weight is as Tesla suggests (close to F-150), then the big breakthrough is the fact that we're getting 500 miles of range out of something that's not absurdly heavy, especially in an EV with a huge battery pack.

This is a classic case of form following function, the truck was built with a purpose and the design followed suit. Is it ugly? Yes... but considering how roomy it is and the tow capacity, I can live with the look.

For years, I thought the H1 Humvee was the ugliest, most unpractical thing ever. I still sort of do, but the more you look at it the more you appreciate the utility it has.

Exactly! EV really opens up what's possible for design. But then I'm scratching my head on this because with all the possibilities for design it seems like they put forth the laziest design possible. "EV allows us to start with a blank slate... That gives me an idea!!, what if we designed a truck that looked like a blank slate?!"

I disagree about form/function. A lot of truck owners stopped buying trucks where the side of the bed was too high to reach over and this thing adds insult to injury. Ain't nobody getting anything out of the bed from the side. As for towing, I tow 300-400 miles several times a year. How do I fit this + a 20' enclosed trailer in a super charger station and how long will I have to wait before I'm on the road again? The range is good, but I'm confident the towing-range is not good and the time to recharge is likely nowhere near as convenient as a fill-up. When it comes to towing toys, the distances are usually pretty far.

For the military. It's incredibly impractical driven into almost any city.
