I've yet to be run off the road or stuck behind someone unable to pass
Drove my wife's new Outback for over 2,000 miles last week. With 174 HP, 175 ft-pds torque, 3665 pounds, fully loaded with luggage, 4 passengers (one of them the equivalent of two normal sized people) it didn't even balk at the up hill climbs through the mountains. With an empty 0 to 60 rated at 9.5 it is actually above the average of 8 seconds.

I had zero issue passing when I wanted or merging with traffic even when the GPS yelled "turn NOW" and I was 3 lanes over. If it can be done by this it can be done by anything.

Just because people lose stop light drag races to the small number of cars on the road with more power does not make the Twins "too slow for traffic" or "NEED more power".

I think people think because it's a "sports car" you should be pinned to your seat everytime you accelerate...

This is what this thread has descended to? The low bar of keeping up with traffic? Even my Fit could comfortably keep up with traffic. It hauled groceries like none other also. I don't think this is what people mean when they say the twins need more power/torque.

And it's fine for people to say go aftermarket. But for the manufacturer to say that?

Btw let me know when there are CARB legal options for a 2017+... asking for a friend.

Keeping up with traffic and being able to make the right decisions is not down to the car you drive, but skill. If you can't do that, then you probably shouldn't be on the road. Never have I been put in tough spot when driving the BRZ or any car for that matter.

What I find funny is, I never have an issue merging onto a highway or keeping up with traffic. It's the car's people brag about being more power or quick I have to be stuck behind going 20-30mph to get on a 70mph highway. Usually it's Camry's and SUVs.

Good point. When in the hell did we ever get that notion?

Back in the 50's, when I first started noticing cars, affordable sports cars didn't have all that much power. They were known to be fun to drive and agile.

Porsche - 46 HP
MG - 54 HP
TR - 65 HP

Now we have 200 HP in an affordable sports car and bitch about it -

They should bring back the 4AFE for the next gen twin... who needs that much power anyway. Traffic barely moves, and all that nostalgia...

I'm fairly certain they all bolt up to 17+

Check with suppliers to be certain.

Nice cars! Because it seems everthing being built now is about maximum hp and 0-60! We're in the middle of a HP war again.

When was the last time you heard anything about handling when a manufacturer is trying to sell a car? Agility seems to have gone out the window except for a select few...This one just happens to be affordable.

We didn't set that bar. The people that say they "can't" merge, pass, get passed, etc due to "lack of power" did. The car is more than capable of all those things. It is some drivers that appear to be lacking. Now, if the complaint is that 20% of the cars made can kick your ass in a stop light drag race then ya the car is "underpowered". If you want to play with the big boys then that is up to you to increase the power not the manufacturer.

The fun part is that the majority of drivers of the higher powered cars will never use even a fraction of that power on the streets. This and most other performance car forums make it seem that everybody wants and uses the power all the time. The reality is that the vast majority never will. My father in law used to brag about how powerful his Infinity was but I doubt it ever went 1 mph over the speed limit. In fact it probably spent 99% of it's time doing well under it while people in Ugos and Geo Metros zipped around it. Of course the same applies to agility.
