I'm so embarrassed by the fact that our Congress has done nothing for years to solve DACA, or any thing. Our Congress is worthless.

I like that someone is finally shaking up the stupid life long political arena.

There should not be life long politicians.

the way you do that I believe is by returning to how our founding fathers tasked themselves into nation management.

Minimal paychecks, minimal compensation, you did it cause you loved the nation and wanted to see it prosper

I sort of want to propose an idea that a state pays for their representatives. Not the federal govt koffers.

a return to form if you will

Getting rich is a lot about who you know. There are all kinds of opportunities that need money, but you wouldn't hear about them because you're not important enough. Then there's the whole paid speaker thing, where you get paid massively to give a talk to some corporation or another. None of it is illegal. All of it is at least somewhat unethical. But you know, the Supreme Court said that money is speech and corporations are people, and we all know who makes up the Supreme Court.

As for lifelong politicians, I disagree. I want an experienced surgeon, and I want an experienced politician. When you take away politicians' experience, the lobbyists just get more powerful.

As for DACA, the House has passed a bill, including votes from both sides, but the Senate won't even take a vote on the issue. And we all know who controls the Senate.

We screwed up big time when we made senators elected. They were the voice of the states.

It reminded me of Jerry Springer or that show MTV had for a little while called, "Yo Mamma".

While I agree with you in concept you may want to review this.

George Washington through U.S. Grant made $25,000 a year. For GW, when inflation adjusted, that is $730K per year, at least according to this article.

Also, from Wikipedia (yea I know the "truth" of the Internet) as a second source.

Did the quasi-political conversation kill the thread?

Possibly, although all I learned was it was good to have been President Taft when the Presidential salary reached it's peak of $2M per year in today's money.

I guess he was a "fat cat" in more ways then one.

For some reason, whenever someone mentions Taft I get this song stuck in my head. Only replacing Flash with Taft.
