Anyone make front side markers blink with turn signals?

I had someone almost smack into the side of my car yesterday. I was getting on the highway and halfway into the open lane when the car in the next lane decided they wanted to switch lanes. Luckily I noticed and bounced back into the on ramp before re-merging.

I don't know how much it would help in the future, but has anyone modified the front side markers to blink with the turn signals for +5 Safety?

Edit: I would be looking to make operate normally, but also flash with turn.

I looked over that thread a couple times, and as far as I could tell no one was able to get the front side marker lights to function in sync with the turn signals, and still be fully functional as marker lights.

After looking at the wiring diagram I thought about how to accomplish this. I came up with something that I believe to be a somewhat simple approach. I will essentially use a relay to switch the input to the side marker from parking lights to the turn signal.

An image of the wiring should show below this paragraph.

In that image I have only sketched out the wiring for the left side, but the right will be identical in overall form.

When the turn signal stalk is activated it provides a ground to the turn signal flasher assembly. L gives ground to one location, R to another.

What I've come up with is using that ground as a way to activate a relay. When the turn signals are commanded, the relay will then switch the input for the side markers to the turn signal circuit.

When the turn signal cancels, the relay will lose ground and the side marker light will be on its normal circuit.

I will use diodes in three places. The diode will be used between the splice and the Turn Signal Flasher Assembly for both L and R legs, as well as one between the Headlight Dimmer Switch Assembly and the Main Body ECU. This will be done more so as a precautionary measure to protect the vehicle electronics.

I intend to use a 3 amp fused switched power supply for the relay so there is no chance of battery draindown in the event the turn signal stalk is not in an neutral position when shutting down the vehicle. Note: the relay coil will only draw approximately .2 amps

This should result in the side markers functioning normally at all times except when using turn signals. The side markers should flash in sync with the front/rear regardless of the position the headlight switch.

how does your circuit change the brightness? it doesn't appear to.

when the parking circuit is on, it appears you're swapping powered wires, which will only create an consistent flicker.

you require a delay circuit on the parking input (87a) to prevent the parking circuit from being energized while the turn circuit (87) is energizing the side marker.

It doesn't change the brightness. The relay's function is to change the circuit the side marker lights are tied to. When the relay coil is not energized the side marker operates normally. When it is energized the side marker changes from the parking light circuit to the turn signal circuit.

The two are never connected so I am not sure what you mean by a delay?

I modified the diagram in paint to clarify the pin numbers and more clearly show the break in the circuit where there was originally only an x.

I appreciate you taking the time to check out the wiring. I am 10 years in the automotive industry with the last 5 in a shop that specializes in electrical. I am very confident that this will work, but if you believe it won't after seeing the revision please explain why so that I may ponder proper procedures.

I have an excessive amount of turn signals.

Stock FRS ones
Spec-D Headlight
Mirrors
Side Markers
Rear Tail lights

For the side markers and headlight I tapped into the stock FRS ones. The mirrors I ran wiring from the mirror into the door grommet into the cabin and into the wiring underneath the steering column.

Mr Eyo, I did see your post, but when I originally was looking at it the google drive didn't work. I am on my pc now and it opened fine. IDK what I'm even looking at.

The diagram is not written out like standard automotive wiring diagrams which is what I work with. It honestly seems overly complicated to me, but you can't argue with success.

What led you to this set up?

whenever i've got an idea, i bread board the concept with similar parts to verify functionality before cutting into the car. in this case, i would get a cheap 'led flasher' for our cars, wire it to a breadboard to get the basic turn signal functionality(2 SPST switches, 2 lights for right/left, connected into the flasher). then i would make the modifications that you intend to do to the car to the circuit, and verify it works the same way.

there used to be a site called hidplanet.com, where i had a dozen different projects and explanations...

the problem with the internet is that when interest drops, things tend to vanish. hidplanet is no more.

before i go into detail, what does 'Bt Switched' mean in your diagram? battery switched?
