Some people don't want to work hard. It's not like work is the greatest thing ever.

the newest hire we've got is literally scared of or has a phobia of everything.

getting shocked
ladders
heights
spiders/critters
small spaces
backing up the work van

and he thought that it would be a good idea to be an electrician. where we go from running something through a dirt crawl space to fixing a light on top of a 16' ladder...

right now, we've spent the last 3 weeks trying to teach him the difference between a channel locks and a linemans pliers.

Sounds like he’s just interested in the money (assuming it pays well) which is fine in my eyes so long as you show up and get shit done. Three weeks seems like a long time for the person you’re describing.

it can pay well. it will never pay well for him though. anyone that shows motivation gets bumped up pretty quickly

he's the 2nd kid like this. first kid was here for 3 months.

this is the hiring pool right now.

the boss keeps these kids around simply because he can't find anyone else. despite their lack of motivation/aptitude, it's safer to have someone else on the job with us in case of emergencies.

Won another $160 today.

Finished my downstairs guest bedroom.

Got my son a flattop at the barbershop, and a lead on a job at a diesel shop.

Looked at trees.

Great day.

OK, THAT brings on a back-in-the-day story.

One Holiday break while I was a college student, I worked a couple of weeks for this electrician. It was a cold day in December and we were working on this job site and he wanted me to climb this 3 story high grain elevator to wire up a 220 motor.

I told him I wasn't going to do that because I don't like heights and I wasn't real fond of working with 220, especially in a cold rain. NOTE: That fellow wired a lot of stuff "hot" to save time -

About then some guys were in this construction shack and mentioned that the white panel van was in the way and needed to be moved. My boss told me to go out and move the van.

Yep, you guessed it I backed it into the side of a pickup truck. I walked into the construction shack and loudly asked who owned the cream colored Ford pickup with a dent in the drivers side door. This big ol burly man said "I do - but it doesn't have a dent in the door"

So, that ended my career as an electrician -

THE END

Actually, it started younger than that, but, I think I've already told the story about backing over the family dog and the story about backing a tractor up and crushing my grandfathers leg -

Thank heaven that bicycles and motorcycles didn't have a reverse gear (at the time) -
