I guess this sucks a bit, but on another note; yesterday, I went to the shops to buy a couple of cartons of coke... low and behold, the fuckers wouldnt fit in the boot cos of the spare tyre! I had to lay them on their side and wiggle em in.

I don't drink beer, but I'd imagine that it would be a similar story... hence the lack of hump should make it easier to get your slabs in!

You see, there IS a reason why they make changes all the time.. it's called KAIZEN!!

I said cost to the consumer not savings to Toyota.

If my GTS due in September comes with the foam kit, I will be up for a trade.

it has already been said that September production is when the full size spare will be deleted. You will have the full size wheel as is now.

Sigh. Order an orange, wait for it to grow for 5 months, then get delivered a lemon.

I wonder how long it will take for my dealer to contact me about the production change. I'll give him a week before enquiring about it.

When purchasing the car, I was promised the spare tyre and boot mat. However, it is not on my contract. Do I have much of a leg to stand on?

You always reserve the right the cancel your order.
The dealerships are left without a leg just as much as you are; the factory has made this spec change and should not reflect poorly on the dealers. Unless they neglect to mention it to customers with existing sept forward builds...

So far there has been no amendments made to the options or accessories lists adding the full size spare and/or rubber mat to purchase. If this does happen you may be able to convince your dealer to contribute some of the cost of these parts or fully include to retain your business.

Unfortunate and i'm a little dissapointed, but come October i'm not going to let that little issue rain on my parade.

I would hazard a guess that any cars that are ordered and were sold with the full size spare will come with one, any that will be ordered after this announcement becomes officially public wont come with it.
I am not sure anyone else has noticed on the flyer that it says "Internal Use only - not for distribution"
Everyone is just speculating at the moment, why not wait till the official word from Toyota.
Has anyone looked through the contract to see if they have any legal standing to be able to change things like this without notification? did you read anything you signed when you ordered it?

That document is the official word from Toyota; I saw it today as well. It was emailed from Toyota Aus HQ to the dealer management, and was not supposed to have been shown to the public, but i would have uploaded it too if blood86 hadn't.

It quite clearly states that anything built from September onwards will not have the spare and rubber mat, no mention at all of protection for existing orders. There is a clause in the full Terms and Conditions of new car contracts (available from your relevant state's governing body) that allows pricing changes and specification changes in extenuating circumstances.

Most reputable dealers will apologise and MAYBE offer a token of goodwill even though it is beyond their control. There will be no specific "promise" or mention of the spare wheel in contracts as it was not anticipated.

Completely agree that this is frustrating, but it has happened and if you're going to break your dealer's balls about something they can't control then I'm glad that I'm not the one dealing with you.

The deletion of the wheel is annoying mainly just because of the value of it. The change in the cargo tray though might be a right pain in the butt as it'll make shoehorning a spare in under it neatly quite hard without tracking down one of the original ones.

I'm going to have to give my dealer a call in the morning and find out what the go is here.
