That's going to be tough to do here in California when all the gas stations use 91 octane as their premium option.

It doesn't seem to be anything to do with the gas. I just filled up yesterday with 93 from Chevron. I can get my idle to drop in neutral just by activating the AC while the car is running. I'll record a video with my phone today and post it for you guys. But just to be clear, these are the steps I'm taking:

1 - with the car running in neutral, turn the fan on full without AC. Idle should be around 800 or 900 to start.

2 - activate the AC by pressing the button. When I do this the idle drops to 400. This is when I feel a small shudder. Then the idle will return to 900 on its own.

I have no CEL yet and I also do not have a chrip.

On my car, I can repeat these steps and have done many times yesterday. It was hot yesterday so I had time to play with the AC and that's how I discovered this.

Now I need to go get some cone marks off my front bumper. Lol.

It kinda feels like a slight misfire at idle. I feel it every so often. No CEL light, still drives smooth, doesnt sputter. But I guess maybe its the hot weather that affects the idle with no wind blowing by. Ill wait till it cools down later on the year before I take it in to the dealer.

Has never happened on my 04 STI or V4 STI swap wagon. Didn't happen on my 97 Coupe or my 02 WRX either.

I have an issue with the idle at random. Whether its right after I've come to a stop or just sitting there for a minute stuck at a light. Has happened with the a/c on and off, same for the brake pedal being pushed or not. Told my dealer about it today since I went in for my first oil change.

I have definitely noticed an occasional rough idle while decelerating in this car. Didnt realize so many people had the same thing.

IDK what to say. First, I don't know what you are talking about. IF you are talking about a small hiccup that almost feels like a single miss every once in a while at idle, its at least very common on newer ones. My 07 STI had this "hiccup", my friends 10 had one, and coworker with an 04 told me his did as well. Most people, including myself, just chalk it up to the hard motor mounts.

Here is a thread on the STI forums for the hiccup.

http://www.iwsti.com/forums/2-5-lite...ling-idle.html

Here is a thread on idle dips as well FYI. Part of why I say this is normal, unless your car is violently shaking and throwing CEL's.

No hiccups on any kind on any mine but I'm a maintenance freak and ocd about every mod. I have group n mounts and stiffer depending on which one of my cars we are talking about. Never hunted on iwsti or nasioc for the issue but guess I should check it out just in case. I know idle dips are normal (usually once you start to mod them) but its not good that my brz has almost died out from it a number of times now and probably would have if I hadn't fleathered the gas.

The cars with the idle dip issue don't die now because they are new and the ignition system is still operating efficiently. Wait a couple years when the wirings, connectors, sensors and the rest of the D-4S System are a little worn out and has lost some of that "brand new car operating efficiency" and I see these engines dying out randomly.

An idle dip is not normal especially for a car that is stock and brand new.

can't the ECU tuners set the idle a bit higher say 75rpm? that migh smooth things out with the A/C etc....the manufacturers always set idle low for emissions reasons and sometimes a small bump is all that is needed.

I just picked up my Ultramarine FR-S yesterday afternoon and put 130 miles on cruising around town/highway. When I was at highway speed I also heard a "chirp" about every 30 seconds roughly. It sounds like what Hawaiian posted - it sounds like the noise a smoke detector makes when it's low on batteries. It sounded like it was coming from the interior not the engine. Not sure what it is.

I'm positive it's related to the DI.

I'm having the same sound. It sounds like its coming from the trunk area in my case. It drives me nuts!!

Agreed. When I worked at mike Shaw Toyota in corpus christi, when we would do the ecu recalls on corollas I would be instructed to haul Ass down the back roads (id go to 100-120mph then slow all the way down for each turn. It's so the ecu can recalibrate its self & relearn its boundrys. That's from what I was told. Didn't know that til I worked there.
