Change to Shell... = problem solved for me.

Not all gas is created equal. Petrocan uses up "to 10% ethanol"

Try Shell or ESSO 91 instead.

I prefer Shell.

The chirping from the engine is caused by the gas used?

it seems so, yes

the injectors don't seem to like fuel containing ethanol, and Petro can has the highest ethanol mix out of the other major brands.

It actually states in the manual not to use fuels with ethanol mix.

Shell 91 is claimed to have none.

Not sure what the dealer put in, but I've put two tanks of Shell V-Power 91 (no ethanol) so far and things seem fine enough!

Huh? Where did you read this?

Almost all gas in NA contains up to 10% ethanol. I can't imagine ethanol causing any damage to the car. And TBH the 10% is a catchall number, I would guess it is much lower then that.

No where in the owners manual does it say not to use fuels with ethanol mix. Most gas in Cali has 10% ethanol no?

And 93 or higher is recommended according to the manual - but it does state that 91 will run without detriment to engine durability or driveability.

Again: Fuel used should not have any effect on the vehical so long as you are using 91+.

At the end of the day however, there are two gases you should use.
1) Petro 94
2) Shell VPower 91 (not the regular 91, the 1 with zero ethanol).

Personally I use Petro 94 because it is widely available to me whereas Shell is a little out of the way.

where did i get this?

i got this from the 370+ thread on engine chirping in the engine/tuning sub-forum

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9836

where have YOU been

as for ethanol causing or not causing damage, i'm not going to get into it because i'm not a chemist, but the owners manual specifically says not to use it, so you can do whatever, but i'm switching back to shell (been a custom all my driving life).
