I mean sure if I had FU money I would buy crazy cars or just rent them. Thing is to get to the FU money status you have to get to the point where your passive income is snowballing from reinvesting your investment income. And trust me I am working towards that but dropping $300k on a car is not something you do until you can't spend your money fast enough.

It's hard to lay down a Caterham in a fast corner because of a patch of gravel. Plus you can always cage a Caterham. Try this with a bike:

Risks in racing are very different vs risks on the street. In circuit racing in particular, I don't know if bikes are more dangerous than cars. You definitely do not have that kind of accident in motorcycle racing! You have very different kinds of accidents, the worst typically being the "high-side", but usually you just end up low-siding and sliding for a bit in your leathers and it's no big deal rather than going through a shaker with multiple impacts as in a tumbling car. In motorcycle racing typical injuries are wrists and collarbones. In car racing I think you are actually at greater risk for head and neck injuries.

On the street, for sure cars are "safer" but a car like the Caterham is definitely in a different league from most modern behemoths. Probably halfway between a car like the BRZ and a motorcycle.

According to the EMTs at Thunderhill, bikes on the track are way more dangerous than cars on the track, and according to NHTSA and other sources, bikes are more dangerous on the street. In the showroom, I dunno. Unless Caterham comes out with an EV, I'm not getting one anyway.
