I think it's a great idea that the turbo is so low trying to stay with thee ultra low centre of gravity.

Been watching this build for a while now can't wait to see the results I think this is going to supprizes u all. Toyota has thought of every thing in this car so what makes u think they will disappoint with the motor??

I also brought my gt without driving it and knowing the price fun car hope it can get funner

I only ask because some areas i drive have crappy roads with pot holes/dips/cracks so anything slightly lower then say the engine cross member or skid plates might be a deciding factor in buying this kit,
you have done a great job of packaging this in a tight and un-cutting fashion, the later i like very much because it keeps the chassis unmolested longer, and i don't have to explain to the authorities why parts of the structure are missing,

or i just never lower it
any chance of getting a more horizontal pic of the under side?

It is not the lowest point. My car is 2.5" lower than stock and the clearance under the car is still better than a bone stock Corvette

If the man hole covers are high they are going to grab the crossmember first

Scion/Subaru BRZ auto tranny - it's just like most other automatic transmissions with a viscus fluid transfer of power, except when the torque converter locks up.

This does not have the flappy paddle gearbox arrangement of the BMW, Porsche, GT-R, etc. In those there is a hydraulically actuated clutch mechanism controlled by the computer. It transmits power through a clutch just like a regular manual, just without the left foot action.

I'm assuming Don will test a bolt on catless header with it down the track?
It isn't really that remote. Im sure you have seen the setups that are full rear mount, where the turbo is behind the rear axle, and they usually claim its fine. If you look at your average intercooled turbo piping, they all travel a significant distance. The extra maybe a couple feet here shouldn't cause a problem. If it is a concern to anyone, pay more for an inline water to air setup and pipe strait to the throttle body.

It should be a very tough transmission when you read its heritige below.

A modified automatic transmission from the Lexus IS-F, minus two gears. The automatic uses a traditional wet torque converter design, but its software has been engineered to mimic the response of a dual-clutch gearbox. The automatic transmission uses three different modes, Sport, Snow, and Normal.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_86#Engineering

The Lexus IS F features a 5.0 L direct-injected 2UR-GSE V8 producing 416 SAE hp (423 PS, 311 kW) at 6600 rpm, while peak torque is 371 ft·lbf (503 N·m) at 5200 rpm.

The Lexus IS F features an 8-speed Sport Direct Shift (SPDS) automatic transmission with sequential shift which can lock-up the torque converter from 2nd through 8th gears (see also: Lexus IS transmission specifications). The SPDS is derived from the unit introduced in the 2007 Lexus LS, which was the first vehicle to carry an 8-speed transmission.[34] The SPDS allows for shifts to occur in 0.1 s (100 ms),[35] compared to 0.05 s (50 ms) of F1 race cars.[36] The wheel-mounted paddle shifters allow for gear shifting while steering, and a manual mode can be selected for added control. The 8-speed transmission also improves fuel economy,[37] with lower overall consumption than BMW, Mercedes, and Audi rivals,[35][37] and avoidance of the U.S. Gas Guzzler Tax.[38]

It's bolted right after the header is it not? Just because it's mounted low and behind the engine doesn't mean it's farther away. Heck, even the IC piping looks surprisingly direct.

I'm leaning towards NA > SC > Turbo in that order but this looks like a pretty ingenious setup. Love the bolt-on-ness of it.
