Am I the only one who is not fond of the stock shift knob? The shape, the bottom silver trim that wiggles a little... I just feel it has so much going on and not as ergonomic as it should be. Like I can't really get a full good grasp on it. For reference, I think the S2000 or current Miata shift knob has felt the best for me.

The reason I got a different shift knob was that I didn't like how sticky/grippy the top of the OEM knob is due to the material over the shift pattern logo. (I'm a palm shifter)

I changed to a Beatrush Q45 duracon plastic spherical knob. It weighs almost nothing. I prefer lighter rather than heavier knobs because I like to feel the knotching/shifts/gates.
It's on the smaller side, and might feel a bit slippery, but it definitely keeps the heat off (especially the white one)

As far as a "weighted version of the Tomei shape":

You might try Shift Solutions or Raceseng. They sell a lot of different varieties and often make FRS/BRZ knobs with lock-out collar. Look into hybrid shift knobs (plastic outer with metal inner core for weight)

I personally feel the stock shift knob to be very ergonomic. It may have to do with how you shift? Shifting I guess how a textbook would teach you how to shift (palm on the top).

if you want weighted, dont get the tomei duracon. the threads are plastic and it weighs almost nothing.

Blox makes neoprene knob covers for summer if you still prefer the metal ones. Has worked great for me in 2 different cars.

It's not that hard to jack a car up. You only need access to the transmission link, same as you would for any shortshifter install. One can argue that you could install some from inside the cabin, but from experience there's just more space coming from under
