Shift Knobs Replacement
 

I am currently looking to replace my shift knob as it is worn. I am looking at the Mishimoto weighted shift knob in silver but heard reviews that it would get hot during the summer, it is also a little longer than I like. Those seems to be the only downside to it. I like that the adapters and threading is made from metal so that it doesn’t crack when over torqued.

I want to know what everyone generally runs so I have a better idea of other factors I should look for when replacing the shifter. Thanks.

I feel like everyone will have a preference for shift knobs. I had a Raceseng Topology weighted shift knob, i think around 470grams, and that was nice, but its took away some of that shifting feeling.

I also had a Cusco shift knob, it wasnt weighted, perhaps weighed around 100grams. It made shifting more difficult for daily driving but fun when having a spirited drive.

Im now back to the stock shift knob. I absolutely love the feeling, I personally dont think you can top the stock shift knob for feeling. So my suggestion, see if you can find a stock shift knob to replace your worn one.

^+1. i only started chasing different knobs after i burned my hand on the stock knob after the car sat out in the sun one day. the oem knob is quite good, i just didn't like the thermal characteristics.

ran a repro TRD knob for a while, then a carbon fiber with the required reverse lockout adapter(good thermally, but too tall), now running a translucent acrylic knob.

my main reasoning is because it doesn't get hot or cold, it just is. the TRD had better grip/feel with the concave top and leather sides, but the aluminum top cap got hot and cold which got irritating really fast.

Yeah that’s exactly what I’m expecting with the metal knobs... I want to know if there is a proper “upgrade” for this.

some people like the delrin knobs, it just cost too much for me-- i try to keep something like shift knobs under $20.

delrin is a form of plastic, so the theory is that it should work as well, i just don't know enough about it to take the gamble. and they're white, which doesn't match anything.

I have the Mishimoto weighted knob. I've also run an old aluminum heavy shift knob. The heat in the summer is a decent trade off, I keep a sock on it if it's going to sit in direct sunlight and take it off when I'm ready to roll. Well worth it, really. Or just deal with the heat, it's not that bad and cools off quick once your hand soaks up some of the heat it stored :)

You can also look into the Carbing high grip shift knob. Same style, but if you get it in black the material is delrin, which does not conduct heat from direct sunlight and store it.

I have the stock one, but wearelikewise is what I frequently look at upgrading to. I just feel like I dont want to get carried aslway buying a ton a cheap tidbits for the car, before you know it I'll have black badges, rim stripes and spike lugs lol. Way I see it, you get three mods, make em big and expensive, dont sweat the small stuff.

Yeah I'm not a fan of holding onto a metal dildo while driving. Maybe I'd like it but just havent tried it yet. Cueball style shifter for me please.

Hahaha. Could easily interpret the cueball as a giant nutsack as well lol.

I've tried a bunch of different knobs and always go back to stock. The shape and weight are perfect from factory imo.

I will say that i did "upgrade" to the newer BRZ PP red shift knob though, which looks very nice and the leather seems softer and higher quality than my 2013 knob.
