Sarcasm is not an emotion. It is a tactic.

Last time I was in the basement or had the plumbing access panel off of the wall upstairs the pipes were white and plastic, so it's definitely some kind of PVC.
I was somewhere between the age of 0 and 3 when they redid the plumbing, so I didn't talk to any of the contractors. I'm sure they did since we've never had any problems with our hot water lines. Currently all pluming problems seem to come from our drains... |

Captain, we need a Romulan to poison the triticale.
...or a Klingon. I don't remember which.

But... As I get older I realize several things that I never considered as a child. I know that if they changed these things it would be a really boring show (i.e. Space 1999 level boring) but I still catch odd items every time I watch it. Kirk is probably the worst starship captain EVER. He risks himself and crew for no reason other than ego time after time. His command decisions are rash if not outright foolish and he has no ability to delegate a thing. He would have been dead or in prison after about a week. Poor Scotty is slowly turned into a raging alcoholic over the course of the series and most of that would be from Kirk's incredibly poor leadership and demands. The Starfleet death benefit payouts for Red Shirts must be astronomical and 95% of them could have been prevented if Kirk didn't order everybody to run head first into every situation. Won't even get into the whole Captain taking his entire command team (including both the helmsmen for some reason) down onto unknown plants to take a look around. Now I get that they are playing Spock's half human side against his Vulcan one but damn that dude is a psychological mess. Does Starfleet not do psych exams before assigning senior crew members to important exploratory vessels? The man has no business being in a key position on a Star Ship. Hell, I am not convinced that he should be behind a desk at headquarters half the time. Surely they can treat such conditions by 2256. Much of what he attributes to "logic" is more just dumb luck than anything. "Spock how did you know the alien would appear right there at that moment so you could save the day?" "Oh it was just logical" there is no "logic" in the world that allows anybody to predict what will happen in an illogical situation. Most of the plot lines in the show laugh in the face of logic. McCoy is probably the most rational of all the Command Team but this is countered by his over emotional reactions to things. I get that it is a character development to counter Spock's logical approach but again it is so extreme. His intense friendship with Kirk clouds his judgement in almost every situation and once again he would be a horrible choice for sending on these missions. The rest of the bridge crew are barely adequate at their jobs. Both Sulu and Chekov need at least a couple more years of training in some interstellar milk run before they are thrown onto the bridge of a star ship as the primary helmsmen. How many times do we see one or the other blankly looking at their controls since the ship is in a tractor beam or some such? Should Uhura really need to be told to "try a different frequency" as often as she does? Isn't this something covered in her training? Last of all is the bloody dilithium crystal plot device. I totally get they make them rare to give something to search for but come on Star Fleet stop sending your ships into unknown space without any spares. They seem to be the one and only critical piece of the warp drive yet they fail if the ship hits a stray atom floating through space but still they don't have replacements on board? Ever? OK so now all the trekkies hate me but like I said even with all these things it remains one of my favourites. It is ironic that The Next Generation fixes many of the flaws and plot devices that I complained about (even if the crew does actually still do some of the same shit it isn't as over the top reckless) I only like it a fraction of the amount I do the original. Oh and the movies provided me with one of my biggest cinematic laughs ever.
