Hey! Sometimes I just go down there and hang out with the other seniors. Soft chairs, free coffee and donuts, new Hot Rod magazine, lots of back-in-the-day stories being told.

Beats the hell out of hanging out down at the feed mill, sitting on sacks of chicken feed, drinking old coffee, drafty mill and the old coots are too damn lazy to stoke up the pot bellied stove - at least we could smoke or chew -

NOW - I'm going to go take my nap!

me - I'm gonna go take a nap

her - how can you do that, knowing our toilet is leaking?

me - I put old towels down - it won't get up to my bed, besides it's my day off

her - I'm gonna call a plumber

me - OK,OK, I'll fix it

later - OK, it's fixed - happy now

me - NO! It's NOT too late for a nap!

So I attended the local Speed and Custom show this weekend and learned the following things:

I now understand what it is like to be one of the younger guys at a car event. The average age had to be around 65.

Rat rods and "as found" restorations seem to be all the rage right now. About 20 years ago I was way ahead of my time with my roller painted primer 58 Ford.

There are something around 100,000 companies offering classic and special car insurance. They were all there as venders.

I am no longer convinced that I can afford to purchase a classic car as a hobby.

Pretty sure that every 68 Camaro made was in attendance.

The entry cost must have been too high since there was not a single ricer on display (this is a first).

WORST "MISS PIN UP" BEAUTY CONTEST EVER!

I'm about at that same point, at least for any car I would want to own. I might be able to afford a 67 Polara (my first car) but even they are starting to get into the range of where I wouldn't want to buy one.

Must have been a heck of a parking lot to hold 235,000 cars. Oh, and were 9,000 of the ones there one of the 7,200 Z28s made?

Wait, if you discount all the ones wrapped around poles in NC, you probably are down to 10 or so, so yea, seems legit.

I stopped counting at about 10. At least 4 were SS "clones". As it was a speed and custom show not a classic car show every one of them had a modern engine swapped into them. Most had whole suspensions modernized as well. All in all almost every car there was pretty much just the body of what they claimed to be since they had been changed so radically.

Seems there are more Z28 and GT500s now than were ever built.

I say that about the 66 to 69 Chevelle SS! Probably the most cloned car ever.
