Nah, the current CTR is very worth it for me, had I not already got into an 86. As a younger owner of the 86, the CTR is a lot more future proof for someone like myself, and that is something that is important to me. The 86 will pose difficulties for me, just not sure when.

Oh, and convertibles suck/are ugly. The S2K is unmatched, but it's old, convertible, not a good only car, and hard to find a decent example.

So, I owned a 2013 FRS for more than 5 years. Eventually supercharged it along with some minor mods. I sold the car and bought a Focus ST. The Focus is a good car for what it is, but when you love RWD cars that are made for drivers then you’ll sell that quickly. I now own a 2017 Mazda MX5 RF (the retractable hardtop) it has Brembo breaks, sport suspension, and BBS wheels (factory). While I do love this car I miss my FRS almost DAILY!

More room, still a perfect driver’s car for the price and so much more potential out of the engine if you want a lot of power.

You are more of a special little flower than a snowflake. Contrary to what Humfrz thinks you don't even qualify as a whiner.
To be clear my personal opinion is that age has nothing to do with attitudes here. There are just as many older snowflakes as there are younger ones.

Also, when the 2021 Toyota 86 is launched with a new design I’ll be buying that. No question

Oh, I'm around some of the FB groups so I know when to stay in. Maybe it's a Subaru thing, or maybe just the last 10 years have changed things (I dropped off the last one when politics got too heavy). I'd go so far as to say the announcer factory is night and day... Should never have changed anything, was perfect before. Except they're still too slow, and those constant backup downtimes, and ..

The Miata forum has some terrible people in it too. It’s the opposite of what you get here I feel.

Maita.net is full of guys that have owned Miatas since ‘89 and are the most defensive people about the brand. You try to point out that the 2016+ doesn’t have a glovebox and they lose their minds.

When this crowd ages a bit they will all likely be dead of old age or driving something else.

It all boils down to money. If you guys are seriously that defensive about the topic, it's fine, I respect that. Again, someone talking about the S2000 will always mention about the power. Someone talking about the MX-5 ND will talk about the body roll. I'm not going to mention it again, because of how touchy it has become, but yeah, there's still a chance I end up with one. So we'll see. If not, just note that you all have helped me make the decision, I just know how to value it better.

It's not that we are defensive(I'm not anyway), it's just a really poor argument from someone who isn't an owner if you know what I mean, but you're hung up on it, so now we are. It should have never been one of your focus points if you know what I mean, but with this being one of your gripes, it's confusing why you aren't considering something that feels(is) faster in this price bracket, Mustang, Camaro, 370Z comes to mind...

Anyway, we want you to buy the car, but we don't want you to make a mistake and become sour about a car you shouldn't have bought in the first place. Car purchases are an "emotional" decision... like some old people would say *cough cough*.

Edit: If you know what I mean

When this crowd ages a bit you'll not have many of the people driving them now. This crowd will be either repairing wide bodies, putting different widebodies on, or the small sect who have kept their cars low mileage and clean and think they're collectible. Then anyone who drives them.

There is a famous term on another forum I frequented. FPFQ "falling price, falling quality" the cheaper the cars got the worse the members got. The cars got attainable and the whole forum fell in to very distinguished categories of owners. This started off as an attainable car and the community has reflected that from the beginning.

They're placing the displays higher up now too, probably to keep your line of sight closer to the road.

I noticed a lot of displays cannot be 100% turned off either unlike the display headunit in our cars. The first thing I did with my 86 was turn the brightness down and then turn it off.

I like simple interiors, and with cars turning into offices that drive them selves it's a sad time indeed.

Now this is said withmy opinion that the MX-5 is a better driver feel car. This isn't a clear 100% win as I think the BRZ has better corner feel. However, throttle response, and the nimbleness of the MX-5 fits my driving style / wants a bit more if I had to rate them, it'll be 8/10 vs. 7/10.

The reasons why the people can get over the practicality advantages have done so with logical reasoning, and that's the convincing. Not someone telling me the car is clearly better. However, the same advice was said here too. You can simply rent a truck. The fact that you can't simply just go out to buy a MX-5 whenever you want is also very real. You must fit a very strict criteria for it to be feasible as a purchase. Where the BRZ would be a lot easier to pull the trigger on unless you're really in need of a truck / van. Right now, I can actually live with a MX-5, and that might not be the case if I was a DJ or something. The BRZ would be practical enough to allow a DJ to live and still have a fun car to drive.

Either way, I've not signed anything yet, and the deals coming in for the BRZ is clearly lower cost, and has more to offer. The Carplay / Android Auto is better implemented in the BRZ, the creature comfort things are better. I can get the performance package while the MX-5 won't sniff it. I probably don't need it, but the value is great.

I'm literally $500 away from signing on the MX-5, but if that does not go through, I'm $500 away from the BRZ with PP. These cars are very close, and it is really hard to choose.

As for the power argument. This is the exact same thing about the S2000 people talked about. I'm not saying you can't drive around it. However to say that the S2000 power curve didn't show itself would be downplaying it.

In a vacuum, the dip is fine, I wouldn't care honestly. However, when compared to the experience of the MX-5 drive, it's just "different" and I'll leave it at that. I personally do not like when reviewers talk about it, so I can only imagine how sick everyone here is of hearing it as well. I just brought it up because I finally felt it in my limited driving time. I didn't get to drive "around" it during my test drive, so all points given to me here are valid that I did not judge the BRZ in the best light possible.
This thread has more words per post than I think I've ever seen here.

Anyway, I've changed my mind. The MX-5 is not for you. You need a Camaro SS or ZL1. They have no torque dip.
