Of course you should. Why should you put up with it?
If they seem in any doubt about where it's coming from you could mention you've heard it's a common problem and it's in the high pressure fuel pump.
Let's see if they say it's normal with direct injection and to ignore it or order a new HP pump.

They might have heard about the cure and give you some 2T oil to add when you fill up until they can upgrade the fuel system?

haha...I don't think so...they'll just claim it's "normal" until they have a fix. Then they'll issue a recall or TSB...

My car makes a strange slamming noise every time I close my door. Do you think I should take it in because I think it's too loud?

I spoke with one of the Subaru engineers today about this issue (he came out to look at the fitment issues I was having), and he laughed his ass off at how ridiculous everyone is being about it. When they ask Toyota about it, they look at the person asking the question and say, "Yeah, so?"

It's good that all you self-proclaimed experts are willing to bend over backwards to eliminate this noise. 2-stroke oil in your fuel tank? Guess you hate your engine. It may eliminate the noise, but you're in for a whole other world of problems. But hey, you guys know better than Toyota, right?

Yes.

Anywho, going to try and put in 94 pure gasoline after work tonight to see if no ethanol is the issue for me and eliminates the chirp. Will update when I get home-- drive home is about 20miles which is more than sufficient time to warm up.

Easy there, bud. The forum jockeys are sensitive about being called out like this. Forums (and google.com) are the only life that they have.

I don't understand why you sound so upset about people experimenting to see what can be done regarding the noise.
It doesn't hurt you in any manner and, if anything, it's a good thing that people are experimenting and posting their results - you learn more regarding how our engine operates.
From my standing this noise should not be there - but for now I'll have to put up with it.

Update:
I have 950 miles now and it got louder.
As long as the road is smooth and there isn't much road noise, I can hear it even at 50 mph when the gear is in neutral and the engine is at idling RPM.
I'm wondering if it's damaging anything. It's pretty loud.

Have to totally agree with this guy, being a victim of the FJ Cruiser "Fender bulge/tear" problem. Toyota still won't admit to this problem even though they changed the design of the front end after 2009.

On a good note, I changed over from Chevron to Shell and haven't heard the chirping. I'm on my 2nd tank of Shell gas. Let's see how it goes.

From my conversation with the Subaru regional tech he said both Subaru and Scion is well aware of the noise. Scion is taking the lead in finding a solution since it is coming from their high pressure fuel pump. For people who said there is nothing wrong with the noise probably should call Scion/Toyota and tell them not to investigate further since it's not a problem.

I'm all for not putting anything in the gas but what problems could it cause? Not asking because I disagree, I just don't know enough about engines.

I'm most interested in the idea of fuel additives (or the lack thereof) being the culprit. Maybe those following this post should let us know what brand of fuel they buy (both those with the chirping and those without).

I use Chevron = Chirps.
I'll try switching to Shell next to see if that gets rid of the noise.

Bought the car with 1/2 tank of gas and no crickets. Filled car with Sunoco/Petro Canada 94 octane ("up to 10%" ethanol), crickets by 300 miles. Re-filled with Shell 91...no crickets. If I have to run Shell gas (the only one I know of with no ethanol here), or add a couple of ounces of one additive or another for 13 gallons to stop the noise until "they" admit there is a problem and fix it (or until the end of time), then that is what I will do. Do I regret buying this car? Hell no! this thing is a hoot to drive. Do I think everyone should run out and do what i did? No. Just stating what seemed to do the trick for my car. I'm sure there are others out there who are as put off as I am by that sound, and are willing to experiment in hopes of reducing or eliminating it.

I just tried switching from Chevron to Shell and the chirping noise went away in 5 minutes!
I hope it stays that way with Shell gas.
